Robyn Regehr 'probably' will return to Kings lineup for Game 2
Robyn Regehr, who has been out of the Kings' lineup for a month, is expected to return to action in Game 2 against the New York Rangers.
The Los Angeles Kings will likely get veteran defenseman Robyn Regehr back in the lineup for Game 2 of the Stanley Cup Final against the New York Rangers. He has been out for the last month with a knee injury.
“He’ll probably play [Saturday],” Kings head coach Darryl Sutter said of Regehr after the team’s practice Friday.
Who he’ll replace in the lineup is less clear, however. The most likely would be Matt Greene, who has played a semi-regular shift, but has played the least of the Kings defensive corps. Greene has average just shy of 14 minutes a game over 16 appearances in the playoffs. He has three assists, 49 hits, 20 blocked shots and a plus-3 rating.
Regehr had two assists and averaged more than 17 minutes a game over his first eight games of the playoffs before going down with injury early in Game 1 against the Anaheim Ducks on May 3.
The 34-year-old defenseman is a solid penalty killer and gets a lot of tough defensive assignments, while bringing a physical presence to the lineup. Regehr warmed up with the team in Game 7 against the Blackhawks and prior to Game 1 of the Stanley Cup Final, but remained in the press box for the game.
Regehr isn’t likely going to be a major impact player in this series, but he’s been a solid enough defender for the Kings and probably offers a little bit more than Greene at this point if fully healthy.
