Ryan Garbutt fined for spearing Corey Perry in Game 5 loss
Stars forward Ryan Garbutt was fined $1,474.36 for spearing Corey Perry on Friday, the maximum fine allowed for Garbutt under the CBA.
The Stars forward was fined the specific amount of $1,474.36 for the incident, the league announced on Saturday. The odd number is the maximum allowed under the CBA based on Garbutt's salary, hence why it's not the $5,000 Milan Lucic was docked for a similar incident earlier this postseason.
Spearing has been a bit of an epidemic this postseason already, especially spearing of the cup-check variety. Perry was guilty of spearing Stars captain Jamie Benn earlier in this series.
This series has been a lot nastier than most people anticipated before it began, Garbutt's spear add just another notch on the belt.
Game 6 is in Dallas on Sunday with the Ducks holding a 3-2 series lead.
