During the Dallas Stars' 5-1 home loss to the Edmonton Oilers on Thursday night, one of their best players brought some unwanted attention to himself.

Jamie Benn was given a five-minute major and a game misconduct for the cross-check, shown above, to the back of Edmonton's Ryan Jones away from the play. The discussion on Friday has been if the penalty was enough and whether Benn should be suspended (David Staples at the Edmonton Journal wants to see two or three games. Stars beat writer Mike Heika of The Dallas Morning News thinks Benn will be fined).

UPDATE: Benn has a disciplinary hearing on Saturday with the league.

Benn's cross-check to Jones took place shortly after Jones was involved in a collision with Stars goalie Kari Lehtonen while he was crashing the net. Jones appeared to let up and even gave Lehtonen a tap on the pads after the fact.
