Thomas Vanek a healthy scratch by Islanders day before deadline
Thomas Vanek has likely played his last game for the Islanders. He's a healthy scratch for the team on Tuesday night in Winnipeg.
Vanek is all but gone from the Islanders, and that writing has been on the wall for weeks now when it became apparent he wouldn't re-sign. There was no reason to put him out on the ice and risk injury the day before the trade deadline.
There doesn't appear to be any deal in place as of yet but it's all but a guarantee it will happen, perhaps even this evening. Where a deal won't be, though, is Anaheim. Talk picked up after their deals on Tuesday that maybe they were making room for Vanek but not the case, according to Renaud Lavoie.
A free agent after this season, Vanek has 21 goals and 32 assists in 60 games this season.
