VIDEO: Ales Hemsky dances through defense for incredible goal
Ales Hemsky scored one that will be on all the highlight reels when this year is done. Easily one of the year's best.
On Thursday night, Ales Hemsky did this thing with his stick and a hockey puck and Radko Gudas and Ben Bishop that is going to be on all of the end-of-season highlight reels. The Ottawa Senators forward showed a glimpse of the skill that made him a two-time 70-point man in Edmonton.
First off, easiest assist of Michalek’s life – “Here’s the puck, now go do something with it.” Second, you know it’s a great move when the crowd has one of those “Oh, OH!, OHHH! YEAAAAAH!” moments. That’s a magnificent sound.
Hemsky gets a head of steam from the red line in and shows Gudas he’s going to make some kind of move. The Lightning defender miscalculated it as he probably didn’t expect Hemsky to slide the puck between his legs and back onto his stick. With Hemsky giving himself the space to go wide, he cut hard back to the net and right around Bishop for the spectacular finish.
Not a lot of people are going to pull that move off in a live game, but Hemsky just showed why he’s as offensively gifted as he was earlier in his career. The former Oilers forward has eight points in seven games since joining the Sens via trade. So things are going pretty well so far on the Hemsky front.
One thing not going well, though, Ottawa’s playoff hopes. The Lightning ended up earning a 5-4 win in regulation, meaning the Senators chances are on very thin ice.
