VIDEO: Dustin Tokarski robs Martin St. Louis with great pad save
Dustin Tokarski didn't look like a rookie when he robbed veteran star Martin St. Louis with a spectacular pad save to keep it a 1-1 game.
Dustin Tokarski’s trial by fire in the Stanley Cup Playoffs has gone well enough. The Habs may have lost Game 2, in which Tokarski made his postseason debut for the most storied franchise in hockey, but he played well enough. He’s doing the same in Game 3, but this time he has a signature save to go along with his performance.
Shortly after the Canadiens gained the lead, the Rangers got a golden opportunity to regain the lead. This time it was a back-door pass to Martin St. Louis that nearly cooked Montreal and their young goaltender.
Instead, Tokarski got over in time with a slide and then lifted his leg pad along with his glove in a great show of athleticism to rob St. Louis who has been red hot of late. He needed both the arm and the pad to make sure that shot stayed out of the net.
Here's a little closer look via @myregularface:
That's a great stop, especially since the Rangers were so quick to capitalize off of the turnover in the Canadiens' zone that led to this chance.
Tokarski really has been standing out in such a high-pressure situation. The 24-year-old has had great postseason success in other stops prior to the NHL, so perhaps this is to be expected. But with the lights brightest, the Canadiens’ netminder is delivering when they need him to most.
