VIDEO: George Parros stretchered off after face-first fall to ice in fight

NHL previews: Atlantic Division | Metropolitan Division | Central Division | Pacific Division

George Parros was doing what the Canadiens pay him to do. While engaging Toronto enforcer Colton Orr in the duo’s second fight of the night, Orr lost his footing and took Parros with him. The big Montreal forward had no way to prevent his face from hitting the ice violently.

The end result was an ugly scene on the Bell Centre ice. Parros appeared knocked out after hitting the ice chin-first. He attempted to get up after receiving some medical attention, but you could see in his eyes that he was not right. The doctors wisely got Parros back on the ice and called for the stretcher.

He was placed on a backboard and carted off, leaving some blood on the ice and the normally jubilant Bell Centre crowd deathly silent. Parros appeared alert as he was taken off.

It was the second time Parros and Orr squared off that night, with Parros appearing to get the better of the Maple Leafs’ pugilist in the first scrap.

In 452 career games, Parros, owner of the most famous mustache in the NHL, has amassed more than 1,000 PIM.

It is instances like these the NHL is trying to avoid by creating rules about players leaving on their helmets. That said, Parros was wearing his helmet and there was nothing it could possibly do to protect his face from slamming into the ice. Not even a visor would have softened the blow.

The fighting debate is sure to rage on all season, and this incident will be part of the discussion, but the only thing that really matters at this point is Parros’ health.

Parros was taken to the hospital for further evaluation according to the Canadiens. Sportsnet's Christine Simpson shared an update on the enforcer's condition.

Here is an extended clip of the entire incident and aftermath.
