VIDEO: Habs' Rene Bourque scores after possible missed penalty call
Rene Bourque scored a controversial goal after it appeared the referees missed a call for too many men on the ice against the Canadiens.
The Montreal Canadiens were looking for a spark after letting the New York Rangers get out to an early 2-0 lead. They found it in the form of a Rene Bourque goal late in the second period that cut the deficit in half. The goal was not without controversy.
The Rangers bench was extremely upset with the officials after it appeared that the men in stripes missed that the Habs had six men on the ice when the puck was played by Josh Gorges.
That should have resulted in an immediate whistle, but apparently none of the four officials on the ice saw it. Linesmen can call penalties for too many men on the ice.
Gorges jumped on the ice well before Andrei Markov made it near the Canadiens bench. Had Gorges not also touched the puck while Markov was still on the ice, the Rangers may not have been as emphatic, but he did, so they were.
Here’s a look at the ice just before Gorges gets the puck.

Teams are often granted a little leeway on line changes, particularly in the second period, but this one doesn’t seem close enough. It would get called in a lot of games, or at least you'd like to think it would.
The Rangers have a gripe, but after they scored twice more in the second period, it may not matter in the long run.
