It took Ilya Kovalchuk until his third game in the KHL, but he finally scored his first goal (for this go-round) with SKA St. Petersburg on Tuesday.

Just take a look at the goal and you can see why Kovalchuk would want to play in the KHL. It's not hard to force awful turnovers in the offensive zone and then defensemen nearly fall down when trying to get back in the play. Kovalchuk goes around the defenseman who was the definition of a pilon.

You can see that he still does have the finishing ability as he is able to tuck the puck just inside the post on the far side from a bad angle. But let's just say the other team, be it the goalie or the skaters, didn't do a whole lot to prevent it.

Seeing plays like that makes you wonder why it took Kovalchuk more than two games to score one in the first place.
