It wasn't exactly Shawn Thornton on Brooks Orpik, but Kings forward Jordan Nolan is in some hot water after sucker-punching Oilers foward Jesse Joensuu in a scrum on Sunday night.

With the usual pileup of hockey players taking place with a frozen puck just outside the crease, the familiar scene ensued. Players were grabbing jerseys and tugging, certainly doing plenty of trash talking with officials trying to play peace keepers.

Then, unsuspectingly, Nolan fired a hook right to Joensuu's jaw. It was good enough for a double minor to Nolan for roughing -- Joensuu got a cross-checking minor -- and a date with the NHL's office of discipline.

The following grounds for the proposed supplemental discipline are being considered: a punch to Joensuu. However, the Department of Player Safety retains the right to make adjustments to these infractions accordingly upon further review.

It will be over the phone so Nolan won't be facing a suspension beyond five games and for that perhaps he should be thankful.
