In the first period against the Rangers on Sunday, the San Jose Sharks weren't very effective offensively. They were completely outplayed by New York. Fortunately for them, they had Logan Couture on the penalty kill.

Playing the high forward on the PK, Couture got to break free and show off his immense skill. It started with a takeaway in the neutral zone before Couture sped around Brad Richards -- playing point position for the Rangers power play -- and broke in on Henrik Lundqvist.

Not wanting to give up a clean chance, Richards made contact with Couture and got him off his line. No sweat, Couture still scored going high with the backhand ... while falling down into the splits.

It was the 19th goal of the season for Couture in his 53rd game, his second short-handed. For the Sharks it was their eighth shortie on the season, a unit that has been especially potent lately. With that kind of skill killing power plays, it's no surprise.
