VIDEO: Mike Ribeiro scores OT winner as Capitals take Game 5
Mike Ribeiro gave the Capitals a 2-1 victory over the Rangers in Game 5 on Friday night with his overtime goal.
It wasn’t an overly pretty game, and the goal that won it in overtime for the Washington Capitals wasn’t exactly of the highlight-reel variety. It won’t matter to the Caps, though.
The Capitals out-shot New York 35-25, including 13-4 in the third period. Henrik Lundqvist had been mostly solid throughout the game for the Rangers. But as Karl Alzner’s point shot took a bounce off a skate in front, the Vezina finalist was caught well out of position. It was as easy as it comes for Ribeiro, who scored his first-career playoff OT winner.
Needless to say, the normally mild-mannered King Henrik wasn’t happy about it.
