The Edmonton Oilers crawled out of a 2-0 hole on Tuesday night in Montreal and beat the Canadiens 4-3. After the game coach Dallas Eakins could have thanked his goalie Devan Dubnyk, game-winning goal scorer Ryan Jones or any other member of his team.

Only he didn't. Instead he thanked Montreal's Lars Eller. Of course there was good reason for that; Eller provided the pregame pump-up by comparing the Oilers to a junior team.

To quote Eakins ... Awesome.

"They might as well have sent me over a fruit basket and a bottle of wine!" Eakins said near the end of his media scrum. "I was like 'Man, that is just perfect.' That was a really great present that Mr. Eller laid on us today."

Some might say it's a bit unbecoming of a coach to talk about it after the game the way Eakins did but you won't see me complaining about it. It's great to see guys speaking candidly, whether they be players or coaches. It's a more fun league when that happens and hopefully something like thist won't lead to Eller saying less going forward.

But it's pretty clear from Eakins the Oilers heard his comments and it helped serve to galvanize them. Sometimes the idea of bulletin-board material is overplayed but the thing is if you believe it works, it will work. If that's what a team needs to feel an extra bit of juice or what have you then it can't be discounted.

As for the Canadiens, coach Michel Therrien touched on it briefly in his turn with the media.

He's unlikely to say anything more on the matter publicly but it's a safe bet he nor the Habs team took kindly to an opposing coach speaking so freely on the subject.

Too bad these teams are in different conferences.
