The end of the season is about more than just the playoff push, it's also that time when the campaigns for the individual awards begin, especially for players on teams that are not in the playoff hunt.

That situation fits the Nashville Predators perfectly and they have a great candidate for one of the NHL's awards, the Norris Trophy. That, of course, would be captain Shea Weber. He's having a terrific season, the best of his career according to coach Barry Trotz and is deserving of some best defenseman love.

Weber blocks shots, he lays hits, he scores goals and points (leading the Predators in both categories); pretty much he does everything. He has come close to winning the Norris in the past but not quite. Obviously the Predators want to change that.

He has a good case, obviously, but the problem is so do a lot of other defenseman across the league including Duncan Keith, Drew Doughty, Alex Pietrangelo, his old teammate Ryan Suter, etc. It's a pretty excellent class of defenseman up for the award this season and Weber's team being out of the playoffs doesn't help his cause, even if it is rather irrelevant to an individual award.
