VIDEO: Referees were mic'd up for Game 4 of Stanley Cup Final
We've heard from players who were mic'd up, but what about the referees? Have a listen to them in Game 4 of the Stanley Cup Final.
We see and hear players being mic'd up often -- who can forget Andrew Shaw's declaration of love for shin pads? -- but we don't see it from the referees much. In fact, people are always asking to get more access to the refs, particularly after questionable calls.
NHL.com has given that access. Or at least a small, edited portion of that access. Hey, you take what you can get.
For Game 4 of the Stanley Cup Final, referees Wes McCauley and Dan O'Halloran were wearing mics, and it's pretty interesting to hear things from their perspective. They give the players and coaches plenty of warning and discuss things at intermission back in their changing room.
Maybe I'm in the minority, but I think that's really cool.
