VIDEO: Reto Berra's failed poke-check leads to easy goal
Reto Berra had the right idea, but failed on the execution of his attempted poke check on Shawn Matthias. The result was an easy goal for Jimmy Hayes.
The Calgary Flames netminder beat Matthias to the puck, but when he poke-checked it away, it ended up on Panthers forward Jimmy Hayes’ stick. With Berra nearly to Calgary’s blue line, he was in no-goalie’s land.
Berra tried to skate back to his net, as hilariously captured by Sean Leahy here.

It didn’t matter, Hayes put the puck into the wide open net to get the Panthers back within a goal. Soon after, Florida scored the game-tying goal.
Berra, who had that amazing bicycle-kick save Wednesday night, learned just how quickly things can turn in the NHL. At least he’ll have entries on both the highlights and gaffes of the year reels. That’s quite a feat.
