VIDEO: UMass Lowell's Christian Folin shoots puck through the net
Christian Folin is a big free-agent prospect for UMass Lowell with an even bigger shot as he showed when he put the puck literally through the net.
You know a defenseman has a heavy shot when they literally are shooting the puck through the net.
In Sunday's Hockey East tournament game between UMass Lowell and Vermont, the River Hawks from Lowell squeeked out a 2-1 win over the Catamounts to advance to the Hockey East semis. They did so in large part thanks to sophomore defenseman Christian Folin's rocket of a shot in the first period.
Watch the video above closely. Coming up on the rush, Folin let a shot fly and it literally goes right through the net and pops out on the other side. Play continued for a moment considering goals usually don't end up rimming around the back boards instantly, but at the first stoppage the play was reviewed and the goal was credited. Right through the twine.
To make matters even more impressive, the goal from Folin was short-handed. So many impressive things happening there.
Folin, by the way, is one of the top free-agent prospects in the NCAA. If he decides to sign with an NHL team when Lowell's season is finished, he'll have a lot of interest. All he has to do is show them this video and teams will line up hoping to get the next Shea Weber. Or the native Swede could elect to return to college for another season; NCAA nets be prepared.
