VIDEO: Viktor Stalberg misses check, goes head-first into boards
Blackhawks forward Viktor Stalberg had a scary head-first collision with the boards Monday against the Red Wings but returned to the game.
This is a scary one.
Chicago Blackhawks forward Viktor Stalberg, who was a healthy scratch in the first two games of Chicago’s series against the Detroit Red Wings, attempted to make an impact on his very first shift of the series. He most definitely did, but not the kind he was hoping to.
While attempting to check Detroit’s Jakub Kindl, the Red Wings defenseman moved just enough for Stalberg to whiff on the hit. There was enough contact with Kindl, however, for Stalberg to lose his footing and fall head-first into the boards. The Blackhawks forward remained on the ice in discomfort, but eventually skated off under his own power.
Considering the proximity to the boards and Stalberg’s inability to protect himself from the impact, it didn’t look good. Stalberg also lost his helmet as well, which only increased the likelihood of injury.
Stalberg did leave the game temporarily, but returned to action after a short stint on the bench. He’s quite lucky it wasn’t worse. Especially after looking at this angle:
