WATCH: Scott Hartnell hilariously parodies athlete commercials
Scott Hartnell shows off his comedic chops in a hilarious parody of regional commercials that feature professional athletes.
Scott Hartnell has become well known as one of the funnier players in the NHL. He solidified that fact when the Flyers were featured as part of HBO’s 24/7 in 2012 as well. He’s also one of the most recognizable players on the Flyers, so it would make sense that local businesses would like him to endorse their products.
As part of Sports Illustrated’s Funniest People in Sports feature, Hartnell shot a “behind-the-scenes” of his regional ad for a local Audi dealership. The results are utterly fantastic.
Filmed in a mockumentary style, Hartnell shows off some of his acting chops and comedic timing, both of which are pretty outstanding, especially for a pro athlete.
In the video, Hartnell has to deal with a director who takes his job way too seriously and also seemingly wants to make the ad as awkward as possible… like most regional ads involving athletes.
From start to finish, this is a fun ride with Hartnell.
Among the best lines…
- Director: “Can we get another wig on him?”
- Director: “I once directed Jaromir Jagr in a Home Depot commercial where I just broke boards over his head while he talked about how to build a shed. Masterful”
- Hartnell: “Truck it, Phaneuf!”
- Hartnell: “I fall a lot on the ice, but I never get as low as Cherry Hill Audi’s prices”
