After the Ottawa Senators earned a huge 6-4 win over the Boston Bruins Thursday night, Sens fans showered the ice with hamburgers. It is the new way to show of admiration for goaltender Andrew Hammond, who has now won 12 of his first 13 starts with the team, and his nickname “The Hamburglar.”

This first occurred after Ottawa’s 2-1 shootout win over the Philadelphia Flyers on Tuesday as one fan threw a burger to Hammond after he was named one of the game’s three stars. The goaltender picked it up off the ice, raised it triumphantly to the crowd and tossed it away. He said later that it felt pretty cold and he didn’t want to eat it.

So when multiple burgers hit the ice after the Sens’ humongous win Thursday night, Senators forward Curtis Lazar wasn’t about to pass up a free meal. Whether it was cold or not didn’t matter to Lazar who took a couple of huge bites.

With the win, the Senators are now two points behind the Bruins in the wild card race.

That's the sweet taste of victory.
