Penguins' Erik Karlsson: Acquired by Pittsburgh
Karlsson was dealt to Pittsburgh on Sunday in a three-team trade with San Jose and Montreal.
The Penguins also acquired Rem Pitlick from the Canadiens and Dillon Hamaliuk from the Sharks in the trade. Additionally, the Penguins received a 2026 third-round pick from San Jose. Karlsson claimed the 2023 Norris Trophy after compiling 25 goals and 101 points in 82 games. San Jose will retain $1.5 million of his $11.5 million cap hit, which runs through the 2026-27 season. Karlsson and Kris Letang will provide the Penguins with plenty of offensive firepower from the back end.

Sharks' Erik Karlsson: Reaches 100-point milestone
Karlsson scored two goals in the Sharks' 6-2 loss to Winnipeg on Monday.
With that, Karlsson has 25 goals and 75 assists in 80 contests this season, making him the first defenseman since Brian Leetch in 1991-92 to reach the 100-point milestone. Karlsson has been sprinting towards the century mark recently, providing three goals and nine points over his last five outings. If he manages to get four points over the Sharks' final two games, then his 2022-23 campaign will move into 10th place on the single-season scoring leaderboard among defensemen, edging out Paul Coffey in 1989-90 and Al MacInnis in 1990-91, who each finished with 103 points.

Sharks' Erik Karlsson: In on both goals in loss
Karlsson scored a goal on two shots and added an assist in Thursday's 6-2 loss to the Avalanche.
Karlsson was again a bright spot in an otherwise dismal performance from the Sharks. Over his last eight games, the defenseman had three goals and 10 assists, including four multi-point efforts. He continues his march to the century mark with 23 tallies, 98 points, 203 shots on net, 85 blocked shots and a minus-16 rating through 78 appearances.

Karlsson simply keeps stacking up the points, improving his case for the Norris trophy this season. Karlsson is the NHL's third-best assist man this season, behind only Connor McDavid (78) and Nikita Kucherov (74). He'll need 10 points over the Sharks' last 12 games to earn a 100-point season.

With the helper, Karlsson set the Sharks' franchise record for points by a defenseman with 84 (20 goals, 64 assists). Brent Burns put up 83 points in 2018-19. Karlsson also has 21 power-play points, 174 shots on net, 72 blocked shots and a minus-11 rating through 67 outings this season. He hasn't slowed down in March with a goal and six helpers through six games this month. He'll need 16 points over the last 15 contests of the season to record the first 100-point campaign by a defenseman since Brian Leetch did it in 1991-92.

Karlsson opened the scoring midway through the first period, but San Jose failed to build off that early edge. It was his 20th goal and 83rd point in 66 games this season. The 32-year-old has set a new career high in points, surpassing his total of 82 during each of the 2015-16 and 2022-23 campaigns. Karlsson also reached the 20-goal milestone for the third time in his career and the first since 2014-15.

Karlsson got the primary assist on both the game-tying goal late in the third period and the overtime winner. He has 19 goals and 82 points in 64 games in 2022-23, including five assists over his last three contests. Karlsson has now tied his career high in points, which was set in 2015-16. The 32-year-old would need to contribute two goals and three assists over the remainder of the campaign to match his career high in each of those categories.

Karlsson picked up two assists in an 8-3 loss to the Capitals on Saturday.
Karlsson was the only bright-ish spot for the lowly Sharks, who now have the NHL's third-worst record (18-33-12). He is the first defenseman to hit 80 points this season (63 games). Karlsson is 14 points ahead of Josh Morrissey of the Jets on the scoring list from the blue line.
