Blackhawks' Kris Versteeg: Signs AHL contract for 2019-20
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Versteeg signed a one-year contract with AHL Rockford on Monday.

Versteeg appeared in 643 games over an 11-year NHL career, spending time with the Blackhawks, Maple Leafs, Flyers, Hurricanes, Panthers, Kings and finally, the Flames. Most recently, the 32-year-old vet split time between Avangard Omsk of the KHL and the Vaxjo Lakers of the SHL, playing for both clubs during the 2018-19 season.

Kris Versteeg: Bound for KHL
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Versteeg will sign with Avangard Omsk of the KHL, Ryan Leslie of Sportsnet reports.

Versteeg played for seven NHL teams over 14 years of service time, amassing 149 goals and 209 assists through 643 games. He represented the Flames for parts of the last two seasons, but a hip injury ended his 2017-18 campaign prematurely. Now 32 years old, it's doubtful that he will eventually return to the North American stage.

Flames' Kris Versteeg: Done for season
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Versteeg will miss the remainder of the season with a hip injury, Pat Steinberg of Sportsnet 960 The Fan reports.

Versteeg returned for just two games before being sidelined again by a hip injury he originally sustained Nov. 24 against the Stars. With the veteran winger limited to a one-year deal with the Flames, he's set to hit free agency, having recorded only three goals and five assists over 24 games in 2017-18.

Flames' Kris Versteeg: Activated off IR
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

The Flames activated Versteeg (hip) from injured reserve Wednesday.

Versteeg hasn't tasted game action since he sustained a hip injury Nov. 24 against the Stars, but he's been practicing with his teammates for nearly two weeks in a non-contact capacity, and logged his first full-contact practice Monday, which was the first indication he was likely on the verge of returning to the lineup. The Flames will hope the 31-year-old winger, who's notched three goals and eighth points in 22 contests this campaign, can help them secure one of the final playoff spots in the Western Conference with just 11 games remaining on their schedule. Versteeg's first chance to return to action will come Friday against San Jose.

Flames' Kris Versteeg: Practices fully
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Versteeg (hip) donned a full-contact jersey while taking part in Monday's practice, Derek Wills of Sportsnet 960 The Fan reports.

The veteran forward -- who last played a game Nov. 24 -- has been practicing with the team for almost two weeks in a non-contact capacity, so this news is a further indication of progress being made in his recovery. It remains to be seen what kind of player Versteeg will be upon returning, but his experience and hands will likely keep him in contention for spots on a power-play unit and one of the Flames' top-three lines. Look for the team to issue an additional update as Versteeg nears a return to the lineup.

Flames' Kris Versteeg: Skates in non-contact jersey
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Versteeg (hip) joined his teammates on the ice Friday sporting a non-contact sweater, Pat Steinberg of Sportsnet 960 The Fan reports.

While the team didn't provide any updates on Versteeg following practice, it bodes well for his return that he's taking part in practice, even in a limited capacity. The winger has already missed 43 games and remains out indefinitely, but he at least appears to be making strides. Once given the green light to play, the veteran will likely bounce Tanner Glass or Garnet Hathaway from the lineup.

Flames' Kris Versteeg: Return timeline pending
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Versteeg is scheduled for a follow-up appointment Tuesday, as he will meet with the surgeon that performed his hip surgery, Wes Gilbertson of the Calgary Sun reports.

The veteran winger has been out since Nov. 24. He reportedly resumed skating in pads three weeks ago, but we're still waiting for a clear timetable for his return. According to Gilbertson, we should get a better idea of where he's at in terms of a potential return after his appointment.

Flames' Kris Versteeg: Skates Monday
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Versteeg (hip) skated in pads Monday for the first time since November, Pat Steinberg of Sportsnet 960 The Fan reports.

Despite the positive development, Versteeg remains weeks away from joining his teammates at practice. Expect the veteran forward, who had eight points in 22 games prior to getting injured, to continue skating on his own for the time being.

Flames' Kris Versteeg: Eyeing March return
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Versteeg (hip) has been cleared to begin skating in 10 to 14 days after meeting with his surgeon this week, Darren Dreger of TSN.ca reports. The winger's return timeline remains sometime in March.

Injury optimism can be dangerous for fantasy owners, as Versteeg will likely need time to hit full stride once healthy enough to return to the lineup, and he could also suffer a setback and be out longer than expected. Additionally, he's probably only going to be available for a handful of games at the end of the season. Be pragmatic before using a roster spot or IR slot on him at this stage of the season.

Flames' Kris Versteeg: Going under knife
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Versteeg will undergo hip surgery Monday.

The veteran winger is faced with a month-to-month return timetable, with this latest report explaining that Versteeg, a two-time Stanley Cup champion, is suffering from a hip labrum issue. "He'd had some history with the hip,'' GM Brad Treliving said. "He tweaked it. He zigged when he should've zagged." While there's no denying that this is a tough loss for the Flames, Versteeg can still wear his leadership hat around the locker room and mentor youngsters like Matthew Tkachuk and Garnet Hathaway, who was recently called up from AHL Stockton.

Flames' Kris Versteeg: Considered month-to-month
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Versteeg (hip) is listed as month-to-month.

This news is actually slightly encouraging, as Sportsnet's Roger Millions reported that Versteeg could be in danger of missing the rest of the season Thursday. Nonetheless, the veteran winger is clearly going to be sidelined long term, so the Flames will be tasked with finding an adequate replacement for him on their top power-play unit for the foreseeable future.

Flames' Kris Versteeg: Could miss remainder of season
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Versteeg (lower body) could require season-ending surgery, Roger Millions of Sportsnet reports.

Millions is reporting that this injury is similar to the one that caused Versteeg to miss extended time when he was with the Panthers in the lockout-shortened 2012-13 campaign. If it's ultimately confirmed that the heady Canadian winger has played his last game this season, he finishes with three goals, five helpers and five power-play points through 22 contests.

Flames' Kris Versteeg: Placed on IR
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Versteeg (lower body) landed on injured reserve Wednesday.

By using a retroactive designation for Versteeg, he is eligible to return as early as Saturday's matchup with Edmonton, although that effectively rules him out against Arizona on Thursday. Whether the winger is cleared to play versus the Oilers remains to be seen. In the meantime, the club has recalled Garnet Hathaway from the minors to fill in.

Flames' Kris Versteeg: Likely out Tuesday
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Versteeg (lower body) is slated to sit out a second consecutive contest when the Flames take on the Maple Leafs on Tuesday, Pat Steinberg of Sportsnet 960 The Fan reports.

Versteeg's injury has apparently not progressed enough and the coaching staff likely wants him to get some more rest before he'll be considered for a return to the lineup. Mark Giordano very well may continue to occupy Versteeg's place with the first power-play unit while the forward continues to recover.

Flames' Kris Versteeg: Being reevaluated before Tuesday's game
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Versteeg (lower body) is being evaluated before Tuesday's game with the Maple Leafs, Pat Steinberg of Sportsnet 960 reports.

Versteeg didn't play Saturday after getting banged up Friday. It seems like we will have an update on his status in time for Tuesday's contest. The veteran has excelled on the power play once again, as he has five points with the extra man through 22 games.

Flames' Kris Versteeg: Will sit out of Saturday's game
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Versteeg has been ruled out of Saturday's game against Colorado with a lower-body injury.

It's unclear when this injury surfaced, as it was announced minutes before puck drop. He will be replaced on the fourth line by Freddie Hamilton, and his power-play duties will likely be turned over to Sam Bennett. Versteeg has posted three goals, five assists and a minus-8 rating through 22 games.

Flames' Kris Versteeg: Delivers two man-advantage helpers
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Versteeg registered two power-play assists in Saturday's 5-4 overtime road win over the Flyers.

The veteran winger was instrumental in helping Sean Monahan record his first career hat trick, and now five of Versteeg's eight points this season have taken place with the man advantage. He's past his prime, but performances like this remind us there's still some gas in the tank.

Flames' Kris Versteeg: Takes minus-2 rating in loss
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Versteeg recorded four shots on net through 14:35 of ice time (3:31 on the power play) but also recorded a minus-2 rating during Tuesday's 5-3 loss to Vancouver.

The veteran has gone 13 games since his last multi-point showing and has just a goal and two assists during that run. Versteeg is being utilized in an interesting fashion this season, as he's skating on the fourth line at five-on-five while also being deployed on the No. 1 power-play unit. He's remains a capable offensive player, and there is potential for Versteeg to find a scoring groove and post solid numbers for a stretch. However, in most settings, he currently isn't a viable fantasy option and is just a player to keep tabs on.

Flames' Kris Versteeg: Returns to Thursday's game
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Versteeg (knee) was able to return to Thursday's game against Carolina, Derek Wills of Sportsnet 960 The Fan reports.

Versteeg looked to be in a ton of pain after blocking a shot with the inside of his right knee during the first period of Thursday's tilt, but the veteran forward evidently just needed some time to shake the ding off in the locker room. He'll return to his role skating on the Flames third line for the rest of Thursday's game.

Flames' Kris Versteeg: Hurt while blocking shot
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Versteeg suffered an apparent knee injury while blocking a shot during Thursday's game against the Hurricanes, Derek Wills of Sportsnet 960 The Fan reports.

Versteeg had to be helped off the ice after blocking a shot with the inside of his right knee during the first period of Thursday's tilt. The 31-year-old winger could be in danger of missing extended time, but the Flames should release an official update on his status prior to Saturday's meeting with the Wild.
