  • Blues' Magnus Paajarvi: Leader as third-line winger

by RotoWire Staff | Special to CBSSports.com
(10/3/17) Paajarvi will be on a line with Oskar Sundqvist and rookie Tage Thompson for Wednesday's opener against the Penguins.

Paajarvi has played in 308 NHL games between Edmonton and St. Louis. His linemates? They've played a combined 28. Paajarvi has been a lifetime third-line man, and he hasn't played over 55 games in a season since the 2013-14 campaign. After head coach Mike Yeo took over last season, he played every game, posting seven goals, five assists and a plus-9 rating through 29 contests. Thompson likely wouldn't have made the 23-man roster if it wasn't for injuries, but he proved to Yeo that he could be a valuable asset at just 19 years old. The adjustment phase may be difficult, but this line had chemistry in camp and could be a sneaky source of points for an injury-riddled squad.

Blues' Magnus Paajarvi: Inks one-year deal with St. Louis

by RotoWire Staff | Special to CBSSports.com
(6/29/17) Paajarvi signed a one-year, $800,000 contract with the Blues on Thursday.

Paajarvi appeared in 40 games with the Blues last season, notching 16 points (nine goals, seven assists) over that span. The big-bodied winger appeared in 37 of last season's final 40 games after Mike Yeo took over as head coach in February, so it's safe to assume he'll be a regular in the Blues' lineup in 2017-18. However, he'll likely be skating in a bottom-six role next season, so his limited ice time and lack of offensive upside will keep him off the fantasy radar in most formats.

Blues' Magnus Paajarvi: Earns qualifying offer

by RotoWire Staff | Special to CBSSports.com
(6/27/17) Paajarvi was extended a qualifying offer by the Blues, Fox Sports Midwest reports.

When head coach Mike Yeo took full control of the program in February, he liked the consistent fire that Paajarvi added nightly, and he made sure in March that the Swede would be with the big club for the remainder of the season. The 26-year-old winger then played in 37 of the campaign's final 40 games, totaling eight goals -- including the series-clincher against Minnesota -- and 15 points with a plus-10 rating. Even with the eventual reemergence of Robby Fabbri (knee), Paajarvi should be suiting up for the Notes in nearly every game next season.

Blues' Magnus Paajarvi: Lifts team to second round

by RotoWire Staff | Special to CBSSports.com
(4/23/17) Paajarvi potted a series-winning goal in overtime Saturday against the Wild.

This was the first career playoff goal for Paajarvi in eight games, and one that he'll never forget. He's locked into a bottom-six role, but suddenly becomes more valuable in fantasy playoff settings because the Blues have advanced and there's more opportunity for him to shine.

Blues' Magnus Paajarvi: Posts assist in Sunday's road win

by RotoWire Staff | Special to CBSSports.com
(4/9/17) Paajarvi picked up an assist in Sunday's 3-2 win over the Avalanche.

It was Paajarvi's first assist in the month of April, and just his second point since his two-goal outburst on March 23 against the Canucks. Next up is a playoff series with the Wild. He isn't going to garner much attention in postseason fantasy pools, but for what it's worth, he did light the lamp once in two regular-season meetings against Minnesota.
