Viktor Stalberg: Signs with Swiss club
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Stalberg (abdomen) signed a two-year contract with EV Zug in Switzerland on Tuesday, TSN reports.

Stalberg posted 16 points in 75 games in Ottawa and Carolina last season. The veteran center seemingly still has the skills to play in the NHL, but he may have been getting tired of being a constant suitcase between the minors and various NHL clubs.

Senators' Viktor Stalberg: Injury revealed as abdominal
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Stalberg fought through an abdominal injury during the playoffs, Bruce Garrioch of TSN reports.

The winger missed the first two games of the Eastern Conference finals against Pittsburgh with what was, at the time, an undisclosed injury. Even when healthy, Stalberg wasn't able to get much going offensively, as evidenced by his two points in 17 playoff contests.

Senators' Viktor Stalberg: Will rejoin lineup for Game 3
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Stalberg (undisclosed) will retake his spot in the lineup for Wednesday's Game 3 against the Penguins.

Stalberg didn't participate in line rushes despite taking warmups, suggesting he would miss the contest. However, it appears he's doing well enough to give it a go. He's likely not full strength and would probably sit if it were the regular season, but all bets are off in the playoffs. The veteran winger contributed four points across 18 games after coming over to Ottawa in midseason and has just two points in the playoffs.

Senators' Viktor Stalberg: Unavailable for Game 3
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Stalberg (undisclosed) was on the ice for pregame warmups, but he didn't participate in line rushes, indicating he won't be in the lineup for Wednesday's Game 3 of the Eastern Conference finals against the Penguins, Marc Brassard of Le Droit d'Ottawa reports.

Stalberg's presence on the ice for Wednesday's pregame skate suggests he's likely on the verge of returning to game action, but he'll have to wait until Friday's Game 5 for his next opportunity to do so. Ryan Dzingel will continue to skate in a bottom-six role while Stalberg remains sidelined.

Senators' Viktor Stalberg: Likely to play Wednesday
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Stalberg (undisclosed) is expected to play in Game 3 against the Penguins on Wednesday, the Ottawa Citizen reports.

The Swede reportedly will take to the ice for warmups to make sure that he's feeling good enough to play. If so, second-year pivot Ryan Dzingel should wind up on the bench. Stalberg is versatile and can be used in a number of situations, but he's dealt with a "couple of issues" in these playoffs, and that seems to be reflected in his performance. He posted two points for his only points versus Boston in the quarterfinals, only to follow that up with a minus-5 rating and goose eggs in the subsequent six-game series against the Blueshirts. Anything can happen in the postseason, but we're not so bullish on Stalberg, given the circumstances.

Senators' Viktor Stalberg: Game-time decision for Game 3
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Stalberg's (undisclosed) status won't be decided until just before puck drop for Game 3 against Pittsburgh, according to head coach Guy Boucher.

After leaving Game 6 against the Rangers, the winger has missed the first two games against the Penguins. With two points in 12 playoff games, he isn't much of a fantasy threat even if he makes his way onto the ice.

Senators' Viktor Stalberg: Return imminent
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Stalberg (undisclosed) is drawing closer to returning, Bruce Garrioch of Postmedia reports.

The Senators will host the Penguins for Game 3 of the Eastern Conference finals Wednesday, and Stalberg reportedly skated in practice Sunday as a sign that he's making progress. NHL teams are intentionally cryptic about player injuries around playoff time, so we may not know what's currently bothering Stalberg until the offseason, when the Swede will be an unrestricted free agent.

Senators' Viktor Stalberg: Won't return Monday
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Stalberg (undisclosed) won't play in Game 2 against Pittsburgh on Monday, Renaud Lavoie of TVA Sports reports.

The winger skated in practice Sunday but still isn't quite ready to return. His next shot at playing will come Wednesday when the series heads north to Ottawa.

Senators' Viktor Stalberg: Skates in practice Sunday
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Stalberg (undisclosed) skated Sunday and could return Monday against Pittsburgh, Dan Rosen of NHL.com reports.

The winger only has two points in 12 games during the playoffs, so he isn't the most productive fantasy option even when healthy. If there's no more news after Monday's morning skate, expect him to be a game-time decision.

Senators' Viktor Stalberg: Unavailable for Game 1
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Stalberg (undisclosed) won't be in the lineup for Saturday's Game 1 of the Eastern Conference finals against the Penguins.

Saturday will mark Stalberg's first missed game of this postseason, but his injury isn't believed to be overly serious, so he could be ready to return to action as soon as Monday for Game 2. Ryan Dzingel (undisclosed) will replace Stalberg in Ottawa's lineup for Game 1.

Senators' Viktor Stalberg: Bullish on chances of playing Saturday
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Stalberg (undisclosed) remains hopeful that he'll be ready for Game 1 against the Penguins on Saturday, Bruce Garrioch of Postmedia reports.

Stalberg hasn't missed a game this postseason, but this latest ailment limited him to 6:40 of ice time during the series-winning semifinal contest against the Rangers on Tuesday. The bigger concern is that he was held pointless with a minus-5 rating in that series against the Blueshirts.

Senators' Viktor Stalberg: Goes down injured in Game 6
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Stalberg went down with an undisclosed injury during Tuesday night's Game 6 against the Rangers and will not be available for the third period, the Ottawa Sun reports.

Stalberg left the bench early in the second period and finished the night with one shot on goal over 6:40 of ice time. An update the 31-year-old's status should be released once the team is able to give him a full evaluation.

Senators' Viktor Stalberg: Will play in Game 6
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Stalberg (undisclosed) will slot into the lineup Sunday after not warming up with the team.

The winger bounced in and out of the lineup prior to puck drop but ultimately found his way onto the ice. He only had four points in 18 regular-season games, but has two in the playoffs so far, so his presence could give the Sens enough juice to close out the series.

Senators' Viktor Stalberg: Won't play in Game 6
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Stalberg (undisclosed) will miss Sunday's tilt against Ottawa, Brent Wallace of TSN reports.

The winger only had four points in 18 NHL games this regular season, but he's heated up in the playoffs and tallied an assist in two of the last three games. With the Senators looking to avoid a Game 7, Stalberg's absence will make beating a hot Tuukka Rask even more difficult.

Senators' Viktor Stalberg: Game-time decision Sunday
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Stalberg's (undisclosed) status won't be decided until just before puck drop, Amalie Benjamin of NHL.com reports.

The winger has a pair of points in the last three games, both assists, and he's proven to be a factor in the Senators' 3-2 series lead. If he's not able to go, it will hinder Ottawa's chance of clinching the series in Game 6.

Senators' Viktor Stalberg: Considered day-to-day
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Stalberg is day-to-day with an undisclosed injury, NHL.com reports.

Stalberg pitched in a primary assist over 16:43 of ice time in Friday's Game 5 loss to the Bruins in double overtime. If he's forced to miss Sunday's road contest, the Senators could opt to play two-way rookie Chris DiDomenico.

Senators' Viktor Stalberg: Likely to remain in Ottawa on Sunday
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Stalberg is one of several veterans unlikely to travel for Sunday's game against the Islanders, Brent Wallace of TSN reports.

Stalberg was one of a handful of veterans with their gear remaining in the locker room after Saturday's game, indicating he is unlikely to travel. Fantasy owners won't be missing much with Stalberg in street clothes, as he has done very little since coming over from the Hurricanes at the NHL trade deadline.

Senators' Viktor Stalberg: Not giving team offensive boost
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Stalberg heads into Saturday's game against the Jets without a point over his past nine outings.

The change of scenery from Carolina to Ottawa has done nothing to jump-start Stalberg's offense. After some good early returns he is doing as little, if not less, than his time with the Hurricanes. It's hard to generate much in limited ice time on the checking line, however. The veteran can be left to the waiver wire in all but the deepest of pools.

Senators' Viktor Stalberg: Ready to return Thursday
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Stalberg (upper body) will return to the lineup for Thursday's game against the Wild, TSN Ottawa's Brent Wallace reports.

Stalberg's return to action will bolster the Senators' bottom-six forward group, but it won't mean much to fantasy owners, as his meager offensive production -- 15 points in 69 games this season -- keeps him off the fantasy radar in all but the deepest of formats. The 31-year-old winger is expected to skate with Chris Kelly and Tommy Wingels on Ottawa's fourth line against Minnesota.

Senators' Viktor Stalberg: Remains out
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Stalberg (upper body) is unable to suit up for Tuesday's contest in Philadelphia, Dean Brown of TSN 1200 reports.

The midseason acquisition missed out on the team's most recent game Saturday, but was able to travel with his teammates for their four-game road trip. With that in mind, it's entirely possible that Stalberg will be ready to return at some point in the next week. A 2010 Stanley Cup champion, Stalberg is a strong skater who can occasionally put the puck in the net, but with 11 goals and 15 points this season, he's not a reliable fantasy play.
