  • Predators' Mattias Ekholm: Will represent home country at Worlds

by RotoWire Staff | Special to CBSSports.com
(5/12/18) Ekholm will join Team Sweden at the IIHF World Championship in Denmark.

Following Nashville's series-ending loss to the Jets on Thursday, Ekholm -- who racked up eight points in 13 games of the 2018 playoffs -- will be a late addition to Sweden's roster in the international tournament. He didn't make it in time for Saturday's thrilling (4-3 overtime) win over Slovakia, but there's another match against the Swiss team scheduled for Sunday. Ekholm's posted 100-plus blocked shots in four straight NHL seasons, plus he fashioned 10 goals and 24 assists over 81 regular-season games in 2017-18 to solidify his status as one of the game's better two-way defensemen.

Predators' Mattias Ekholm: Dishes for two goals in Game 3 loss

by RotoWire Staff | Special to CBSSports.com
(5/2/18) Ekholm set up two goals in Tuesday's 7-4 road loss to the Jets in Game 3 of the conference semifinals.

Ekholm was a secondary distributor on Mike Fisher's game-opening goal and the lone table-setter for an Austin Watson tally in the first period. The Predators would relinquish the lead with the Jets striking four times in the subsequent frame. Ekholm has averaged just over 26 minutes of ice time in this playoff series, and the Predators rely on him a fair amount on the penalty kill. Given his offensive acumen and heavy usage, the Swede should continue to be a quality fantasy option in playoff settings.

Predators' Mattias Ekholm: Records plus-4 rating in rout

by RotoWire Staff | Special to CBSSports.com
(4/22/18) Ekholm continued to dazzle in the plus/minus category with a plus-4 rating and scored a goal in a 5-0 victory over the Avalanche on Sunday. The Predators won the series 4-2.

The defenseman's marker was not only the first goal for the Predators in the rout, but it was also the first from a Nashville blue liner in the series. The Predators defensive core led the league in goals this season and only went goalless for a five-game stretch during the regular season once (which is how they opened up the playoffs). But that doesn't mean Ekholm wasn't a solid fantasy contributor all series long. In addition to his Game 6 goal, he posted five assists and a team-high plus-9 rating versus the Avalanche.

Predators' Mattias Ekholm: Contributes helper in defeat

by RotoWire Staff | Special to CBSSports.com
(4/21/18) Ekholm helped set up Nick Bonino's goal, but it wasn't enough in a 2-1 loss to Colorado on Friday in Game 5.

This was Ekholm's first point in an odd-numbered game, and he's now up to five for the postseason, all of them assists.

Predators' Mattias Ekholm: Matches Game 2 performance

by RotoWire Staff | Special to CBSSports.com
(4/19/18) Ekholm produced another two helpers and a plus-3 rating in Game 4, as his team earned a 3-2 win over Colorado on Wednesday and a 3-1 series lead in the Western Conference quarterfinals.

Ekholm has been feast or famine in the playoffs, as he's produced four assists, four penalty minutes and a plus-6 rating in the even-numbered games and no points with a minus-2 rating in the two odd-numbered games.
