Vincent Lecavalier: Officially retires
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Lecavalier announced his retirement from the NHL on Tuesday, Joe Smith of the Tampa Bay Times reports.

Lecavalier hangs up his skates after 17 years of service time in the NHL. The former first overall draft pick (1998) helped the Lightning to a Stanley Cup in 2004 and a 108-point campaign in 2006-07. He also had stints with the Flyers and most recently, the Kings, including modest offensive contributions in the 2016 Stanley Cup Playoffs. A hulky center known for absolutely blasting shots, Lecavalier finishes with 421 goals, 528 assists, and 848 PIM in 1,212 career games.

Kings' Vincent Lecavalier: Still plans to retire
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Lecavalier confirmed Sunday that he still plans to retire, ESPN.com reports.

The first overall pick in the 1998 NHL Draft, Lecavalier spent 14 seasons in Tampa Bay, then signed with the Flyers before the 2013-14 season. He was traded to the Kings midway through the 2015-16 campaign, after being demoted to healthy-scratch status in Philadelphia. Lecavalier did manage 17 points in 42 games with Los Angeles, so it's possible he changes his mind and comes back for another season. If not, he'll retire with 421 goals and 528 assists (949 points), with all but 75 of his points coming in a Tampa Bay uniform.

Kings' Vincent Lecavalier: Scores in losing effort
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Lecavalier scored the Kings' lone goal in a 2-1 loss Saturday.

Lecavalier had a resurgence with the Kings this season, and was the lone King to score against Martin Jones on Saturday, breaking Jones' shutout bid late in the third period. Lecavalier also won 69 percent of his faceoffs, but still couldn't do enough to lift the Kings past the Sharks.

Kings' Vincent Lecavalier: Returns quietly Saturday
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Lecavalier (undisclosed) returned to the lineup Saturday, but went without cracking the scorebook in the contest against the Oilers.

The veteran logged 10:29 of ice time in the contest, finishing with a minus-2 rating for the game. He should be good to go moving forward, but hasn't really done enough (15 points in 35 games) with the Kings to warrant ownership in the majority of fantasy leagues.

Kings' Vincent Lecavalier: Game-time call Saturday
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Lecavalier (undisclosed) will be a game-time decision for Saturday's matchup with the Oilers, Helene Elliott of the LA Times reports.

Lecavalier missed Thursday's game against the Jets with an undisclosed issue, but was able to participate in an optional skate Friday, which was the first indication he may be available for Saturday's matchup with Edmonton. If the 35-year-old forward is ultimately unable to go Saturday, Nick Shore will likely draw into the lineup in his absence. Expect an update on Lecavalier's status ahead of puck drop Saturday evening.

Kings' Vincent Lecavalier: Able to skate Friday
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Lecavalier (undisclosed) was able to participate in an optional skate Friday, LA Kings Insider reports.

Lecavalier was held out of Thursday's contest but seems like a likely bet to rejoin the lineup Saturday given his presence at the Friday skate.

Kings' Vincent Lecavalier: Out against Jets
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Lecavalier will not play against Winnipeg due to some minors knocks, Jon Rosen of LA Kings Insider reports

Lecavalier was described as "a little banged up," but is not dealing with anything serious and could return Saturday versus Edmonton. The veteran has been solid for the Kings this season, as he has registered eight goals and seven assists since making the move out west. This could be a case of resting the 35-year-old to ensure he is healthy and ready to help the team make a deep playoff run.

Kings' Vincent Lecavalier: Continues hot streak in win
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Lecavalier recorded an assist and a plus-2 rating in Tuesday's 5-2 win over the Stars.

While Lecavalier is still averaging under 10 minutes of ice time each game, he has been on a bit of a hot streak of late. In this last six games, he's tallied three goals and two assists. This is surely a welcomed sight for the 35-year-old, as he only tallied nine points in the 29 game preceding the streak that he's currently on.

Kings' Vincent Lecavalier: Notches fifth goal as King on Tuesday
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Lecavalier notched his fourth power-play goal in 11 games since joining the Kings in a 6-2 win Tuesday against the Coyotes.

Lecavalier's seen plenty of usage on the power play since joining the Kings, and those four man-advantage tallies represent the majority of his offensive output in his new digs. He's got a three-game point streak going now, but rarely skates more than about 13 minutes per game, so the 35-year-old pivot isn't likely to see a jump in production unless an injury to Anze Kopitar or Jeff Carter forces him into a bigger role.

Kings' Vincent Lecavalier: Scores third goal in three games
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Lecavalier scored a power-play goal Tuesday against Dallas in a 3-2 win.

Lecavalier now has three goals in three games, all of them on the power play. At 35 years old, Lecavalier isn't very mobile any more but still has a very good shot, something Darryl Sutter obviously recognized and has utilized to good effect so far. All of Lecavalier's goals have come in a Kings sweater, and also played center Tuesday against Dallas. His hot streak is unlikely to last, but count Lecavalier as yet another veteran who has found new life under Sutter.

Flyers' Vincent Lecavalier: Dealt to LA
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

The Flyers traded Lecavalier and Luke Schenn to the Kings in exchange for Jordan Weal and a third-round draft pick on Wednesday, TSN's Bob McKenzie reports.

The Flyers' are reportedly retaining half of Lecavalier and Schenn's salaries, but are still freeing up over $4 million in cap space, which will give the team some major roster flexibility, and allow them to acquire more players via trade if they so desire. Lecavalier is well past his prime, and has only played in seven contests with Philadelphia this season, notching a single assist in those games. It isn't clear what kind of opportunity he'll get with the Kings, but with Weal on his way to the Flyers, he'll at least provide LA with additional depth at center. Either way, Lecavalier is reportedly planning on retiring at the end of the 2015-16 season, which will bring his outstanding 18-year NHL career to an end.

Flyers' Vincent Lecavalier: Participates in Thursday's morning skate
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Lecavalier (back) took part in Thursday's morning skate, Sam Carchidi of The Philadelphia Inquirer reports.

Lecavalier's presence at Thursday's morning skate indicates the veteran forward has recovered from the stiff back that held him out of Philadelphia's Dec. 8 matchup with the Islanders. Lecavalier likely wouldn't have suited up for that contest even if he wasn't hampered by a back issue, as the 35-year-old center has been a healthy scratch for all but seven of Philadelphia's games this season. The former first-round pick has tallied a single assist in seven contests this year.

Flyers' Vincent Lecavalier: Scratched from lineup again
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Lecavalier was once again not in the lineup for Thursday's 4-2 win over St. Louis.

It's been a challenging year for Lecavalier, who's appeared in just seven games and has only one point on the season. On Tuesday he was dealing with a stiff back, according to Sam Carchidi of the Philadelphia Inquirer, which held him out of the game against the Islanders. No reason was given for Thursday's absence. While general manager Ron Hextall seems reticent to call it quits on the aging center just yet, fantasy owners should feel less reticent.

Flyers' Vincent Lecavalier: Tallies assist in season debut Thursday
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Lecavalier got an assist in his season debut Thursday, a 4-1 loss to the Devils.

Lecavalier skated a team-low 7:16, finishing plus-1 with a shot. The veteran was forced into the lineup due to an injury to center Pierre-Edouard Bellemare, but was actually pretty productive. We all know what Lecavalier has done in the past, so there's a chance he may get some extra playing time if Bellemare remains sidelined. That doesn't mean you should rush to add him, but he's worth monitoring.

Flyers' Vincent Lecavalier: To make season debut Thursday
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Lecavalier will make his season debut Thursday night against the visiting Devils, Sam Carchidi of the Philadelphia Inquirer reports.

Lecavalier warmed the bench for Philly's first eight games, but an apparent lower-body injury to center Pierre-Edouard Bellemare has prompted the team to give Lecavalier another look. We're talking about a guy that dropped 108 points with the Lightning a decade ago, so he clearly knows what it takes to put the puck past goalies, but he's 35 years old now and has seen his point totals drop in each successive year since 2009-10. Assuming he can start drawing into the lineup more regularly, Lecavalier could show up on the scoresheet on occassion, but temper your expectations as he's definitely not the player he once was.

Expected to be healthy scratch for opener
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Lecavalier is expected to be a healthy scratch for Thursday's season-opener, reports Tim Panaccio of CSN Philadelphia.Lecavalier was as frustrated with the decision as owners who drafted him. His lone preseason goal doesn't seem to have impressed new coach Dave Hakstol, and it looks likely that he'll sit a healthy amount this season.

Flyers' Lecavalier Returns to Familiar Center Spot
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Coach Dave Hakstol has returned Lecavalier to his natural position at center, reports Sam Carchidi of the Philadelphia Inquirer,It seems to working well so far this preseason, as Lecavalier's lines have potted two goals in two games this week, including one by the aging center himself. Still, owners should exercise caution. Even if the Flyers' new coach is able to squeeze more out of Lecavalier this season, owners are right to question how much juice is left to squeeze.

Lecavalier was ruled out for Saturday's season finale against the Senators due to a probable concussion, Tim Panaccio of CSN Philadelphia reports.Lecavalier sustained the head injury in Thursday's loss to the Hurricanes. The concussion will end what has been a terrible season that included several healthy scratches for the forward, who will finish with just 20 points in 57 games. He'll still have three years remaining on his contract with the Flyers at a $4.5 million cap hit.

Lecavalier snagged an assist in Tuesday's 5-4 win over the Islanders. The assist gives him 20 points for the season, a stark total despite his injuries. His production has steadily declined over the last few seasons, and he's barely seeing over 10 minutes of ice time. The aging star doesn't have a bright future for fantasy owners.
