Chris Wideman: Headed overseas
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Wideman penned a one-year deal with Torpedo Nizhny Novgorod (KHL) on Monday.

Wideman spent the entirety of the 2019-20 campaign playing for AHL San Diego, for which he tallied nine goals and 22 helpers in 53 outings. The Miami University product was selected by the Senators in the fourth round of the 2009 NHL Draft and went on to log 181 games in the league for Ottawa, Edmonton and Florida. This likely marks the end of the 30-year-old veteran's NHL career, which means he'll eventually retire having scored 16 goals and 29 helpers along the way.

Ducks' Chris Wideman: Returned to minor-league affiliate
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Anaheim reassigned Wideman to AHL San Diego on Friday.

Wideman failed to crack the lineup during his one-game stay with the big club. The 29-year-old American will spend most of his time in the minors in 2019-20, so there's no reason for fantasy owners to have him on their radar.

Ducks' Chris Wideman: Called up from minors
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Wideman was promoted from AHL San Diego on Thursday, Elliott Teaford of The Orange County Register reports.

Wideman will make his first trip to Anaheim since joining the organization on a one-year deal this offseason. The St. Louis native is unlikely to crack the lineup versus Arizona on Thursday but will provide emergency depth for the road clash. If Wideman suits up, it will likely come at the expense of Jacob Larsson or Korbinian Holzer.

Ducks' Chris Wideman: Snags one-year deal
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Wideman has signed a one-year, two-way contract with the Ducks, Elliott Teaford of The Orange County Register reports.

Wideman saw action with the Senators, Oilers and Panthers last season, appearing in a total of 25 NHL games in which he tallied two goals, five assists and 27 shots. The 29-year-old will likely split time between the NHL and AHL, but the rebuilding Ducks could find a spot for him in the lineup.

Penguins' Chris Wideman: Bumps down a rank
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

The Penguins assigned Wideman to AHL Wilkes-Barre/Scranton on Tuesday, Josh Yohe of The Athletic reports.

After trading for Wideman before Monday's deadline, the Penguins immediately sent him to the minors. They only have six healthy defensemen on the roster along with an assortment of injured starters including Kris Letang (upper body), Olli Maata (shoulder) and Brian Dumoulin (concussion). Wideman may be recalled later in the season to add depth for a playoff run.

Penguins' Chris Wideman: Bound for Pittsburgh
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Wideman was dealt to the Penguins -- via the Panthers -- in a straight up trade for Jean-Sebastian Dea on Monday, Bob McKenzie of TSN reports.

The Panthers dumped Wideman on waivers last month, but he passed through unclaimed and stuck with the organization. Fortunately for the Cats, it netted them a forward in Dea, who could be relied upon with Derick Brassard getting shipped out of town by Monday's deadline. Wideman has accumulated 45 points (16 goals, 29 assists) over 181 career contests between the Senators, Oilers and Panthers. He should help a Pittsburgh team that is down Brian Dumoulin (concussion), Olli Maata (shoulder) and possibly even Kris Letang (upper body) ahead of Monday's game against the Avs.

Panthers' Chris Wideman: Hits waivers after Panthers debut
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

The Panthers waived Wideman on Sunday, Elliotte Friedman of Sportsnet reports.

Wideman made his Panthers debut Saturday after being traded from the Oilers along with a third-round pick in exchange for Alex Petrovic. He went minus-1, fired two shots on goal and dished out two hits over 11:53 of action. If Wideman is picked up, it'll be his fourth team of the season. If he clears, he'll report to AHL Springfield.

Panthers' Chris Wideman: Getting set for Panthers debut
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Wideman will make his Panthers debut against the Blue Jackets on Saturday, per George Richards of The Athletic.

Wideman started the season with Ottawa, only to be traded to Edmonton and flipped a second time to wind up in Florida with the Cats. The American defenseman has totaled two goals and five assists through 24 games this season, but as you might expect from his pinballing around the NHL, he hasn't received much of an opportunity to pick up the type of numbers that owners need to be successful in fantasy games. Bogdan Kiselevich is considered internal competition for Wideman, so we'll have to see who ends up earning the most playing time on the third pair for the Panthers.

Panthers' Chris Wideman: Heads for warmer weather
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

The Oilers traded Wideman and a 2019 third-round pick to the Panthers in exchange for Alex Petrovic, Bob McKenzie of TSN reports.

This is Wideman's second time being traded this season, as Ottawa dealt him to Edmonton in late November. Wideman played just five games for the Oilers, recording two assists. If he doesn't perform early, Wideman could be a healthy scratch often, similar to the situation with his last two clubs.

Oilers' Chris Wideman: Traded to Edmonton
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

The Oilers acquired Wideman from Ottawa on Thursday in exchange for a 2020 conditional sixth-round draft pick (previously acquired from St. Louis).

Prior to Thursday's trade, Wideman had gone seven straight games without a point, causing many to speculate that before long he'd be the odd man out on Ottawa's blue line. With the trade, the 28-year-old will benefit from a fresh start in Edmonton. That said, Wideman's fantasy outlook remains bleak, though it could change before long depending on what new head coach Ken Hitchcock has in store for the veteran blueliner. Wideman could see a bump in value if he winds up on either of Edmonton's power-play units.

Senators' Chris Wideman: Returning with more power-play time
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Wideman (lower body) not only will play Thursday night against the Red Wings, but he's expected to see an uptick in power-play time, Ian Mendes of TSN 1200 Ottawa reports, citing Senators coach Guy Boucher.

This development puts Wideman in play as an intriguing value option on a nine-game slate. Ottawa's fourth-round (100th overall) pick from the 2009 draft has two goals and three assists over 17 games this season -- those are pedestrian numbers, but he's also added 24 hits and 20 blocked shots for a decent two-way profile, plus Wideman's team ranks tied for sixth in converting man-advantage opportunities at 27.1 percent.

Senators' Chris Wideman: Dealing with lower-body issue
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Wideman (lower body) will sit out of Sunday's game versus the Panthers.

Wideman's absence will open the door for Nick Paul to crack the lineup. The 28-year-old has been cold lately with zero points and a minus-4 rating in the last five outings. His next chance to play will be Thursday versus the Red Wings.

Senators' Chris Wideman: Nets pair in win
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Wideman scored two goals Saturday, helping his team to a 5-1 home win over the Kings.

Wideman came into this game having scored just 14 goals in his entire career, so this was a rarity for him. Granted, he did score eight points in 16 games last season, but he hasn't shown enough of this to suggest he's ready to step up on the stat sheet. For now, he's probably not worth a spot outside the deepest of leagues.

Senators' Chris Wideman: Settling into regular-season action
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Wideman skated to a minus-2 rating Wednesday, but he added a pair of hits and three blocked shots in a 7-4 home loss to the Flyers.

Wideman was limited to 66 games last season in large part to needing his hamstring muscle reattached. He has yet to record a point through the first four games of the season, but Ottawa's fourth-round (100th overall) pick from the 2009 draft saw nearly 20 minutes of ice time in his season debut, and he's been around the mid-high-teens in average rink run ever since.

Senators' Chris Wideman: Inks extension with Ottawa
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Wideman agreed to a one-year contract extension with the Senators on Sunday.

The defenseman is coming off a hamstring injury and missed 66 games this past season, but that didn't stop the club from extending the veteran for one more year, as he has now been cleared to continue all athletic activities. Wideman has been with Ottawa since he went 100th overall in the 2009 NHL Draft; he's since posted 38 points (14 goals, 24 assists) in 156 games.

Senators' Chris Wideman: Out for rest of season
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Wideman (hamstring) will miss the final six games of the season.

Ottawa's fourth-round (100th overall) draft pick from 2009 reportedly is still in recovery mode after going under the knife to reattach his torn hamstring muscle, with the surgeon recommending that he not play again this season. This seems like a wise decision given that the Senators have no shot at the playoffs. Wideman finishes with eight points (three goals, five assists) and a plus-5 rating through 16 games.

Senators' Chris Wideman: May still play this season
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

According to coach Guy Boucher, Wideman (hamstring) has not been ruled out for the season and could still return to action, per TSN 1200 Ottawa.

Wideman last played Nov. 16 against Pittsburgh when he sustained a ripped hamstring. Prior to getting hurt, the defenseman tallied three assists in his previous four outings and seemed poised for a productive 2017-18 campaign. Even if Wideman does suit up this year, the focus is likely more on getting him ready for next season, as the Sens are all but eliminated from the playoffs.

Senators' Chris Wideman: Practices in full Monday
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Wideman (hamstring) took to the ice for his first full post-injury practice Monday, TSN 1200 Ottawa reports.

Wideman has been out since Nov. 16, and a report from the Ottawa Sun published Feb. 17 detailed how the defenseman has "a ways to go" before returning to action. Still, this is a clear sign of progress for the man the Senators selected with a fourth-round (100th overall) pick in the 2009 NHL Entry Draft.

Senators' Chris Wideman: Still 'a ways' off from return
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Wideman (hamstring) skated prior to Friday's practice, but he still has "a ways" to go before rejoining the team, the Ottawa Sun reports.

Wideman's been limited to 16 games this season, as he went under the knife to repair his torn hamstring. Ottawa's fourth-round pick (100th overall) from the 2009 NHL Entry Draft seems to have a bright future ahead of him; he's physical and had shown tremendous vision on the way to back-to-back 42-assist seasons with the AHL's Senators between 2013-15, but his focus is squarely on getting healthy at the moment.

Senators' Chris Wideman: Seeking clarity on torn hamstring
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Wideman (hamstring) will meet with a surgeon to determine whether he can return this season, TSN 1200 Ottawa reports.

Wideman's torn hamstring is expected to keep him off game ice for 4-to-6 months, and it's already been over a month and a half since the team first learned about the defenseman's prognosis. However, this next appointment should officially determine whether Wideman has a chance of returning at any point in the 2017-18 campaign. Ottawa is near the basement of the Atlantic Division, so there may not be a chance for the two-way skater to set hi near-time sights on playoff competition.
