Jones signed a contract with HC Thurgau-Switzerland on Thursday.
Jones has spent most of his five-year professional hockey career with AHL Bridgeport and hasn't seen the ice in an NHL game since the 2016-17 season. The Canadian registered 128 games in the minors over the last two seasons, logging 27 points (14 goals, 13 assists).
Jones secured a one-year, two-way contract with the Islanders on Thursday, Arthur Staple of Newsday reports.
Jones made his NHL debut last season, appearing in four outings and failing to register a point. In the minors, the 26-year-old fared slightly better, as he posted five goals and 14 helpers along with 89 PIM in 58 outings. Considering that the winger has yet to find his scoring touch in the AHL, he's not likely to earn a permanent spot on the Isles' 23-man roster anytime soon.
Jones was reassigned to AHL Bridgeport on Monday.
Jones only drew into four tilts for the Islanders. The club wanted to get some of its younger guys a taste of the top level, though the 26-year-old forward may not fit that mold. He produced just 18 points over 56 games with Bridgeport this season and doesn't seem a likely candidate to see consistent playing time in the NHL next year.
Jones was called up to the NHL on Saturday, Brian Compton of NHL.com reports.
Jones is expected to fill an injury-battered offense for the Islanders. He has never played an NHL game, but he may get a chance Sunday in Buffalo. Jones has recorded five goals, 13 assists, and 87 PIM in 56 games for the AHL's Bridgeport Sound Tigers.
Jones signed a one-year, two-way deal with the Islanders on Wednesday.
Jones was previously on an AHL-only contract, so this deal will allow him to be called up by the Isles if and when they need him. The British Columbia native has recorded only 17 points with AHL Bridgeport this season, but he's established himself as an enforcer with a career-high 81 penalty minutes.
Jones was released from his professional tryout contract Sunday, Dan Saraceni of SBNation reports.
Having never played an NHL game, the 26-year-old didn't have much of a chance to make the Islanders. He will report to training camp for AHL Bridgeport this week.
Jones inked a professional tryout deal with the Islanders on Monday.
Jones has never seen any NHL action to this point in his career and notched just 13 points over 51 games with AHL Bridgeport last season. It's unlikely he stands a chance to crack the Islanders' roster but he'll at least get a small shot at impressing.
