  • Blue Jackets' Jon Gillies: Exits Friday's game

Gillies (lower body) will not return against Buffalo on Friday. Gillies did not come back to the game to begin the third period after picking up a lower-body injury. He stopped 24 of 27 shots before being replaced by Michael Hutchinson. Gillies allowed nine goals on 66 shots in three NHL appearances this season.

  • Blue Jackets' Jon Gillies: Slated to start Friday

Gillies is expected to guard the home crease against the Sabres on Friday, Mark Scheig of The Hockey Writers reports. Gillies has appeared in two games with Columbus this year, during which he's surrendered six goals on 39 shots. He also has a 3.70 GAA and an .878 save percentage in 15 AHL contests with Tucson in 2022-23. Buffalo has the third-ranked offense with 3.56 goals per game this season.

  • Blue Jackets' Jon Gillies: Allows three in loss

Gillies allowed three goals on 12 shots coming in relief in the Blue Jackets' 8-1 loss to the Devils on Thursday. After Michael Hutchinson got pulled early in the third period, Gillies did not fare much better, allowing three goals on just 12 shots, though at least he wasn't saddled with the loss. This was just Gilles' second appearance of the season, and he's allowed three goals in both games. He should continue to serve as the backup until Elvis Merzlikins returns.

  • Blue Jackets' Jon Gillies: Recalled from minors Wednesday

Gillies was called up from AHL Cleveland on Wednesday. Gillies has played in just one game for the Jackets this season, in which he made 24 saves in a winning effort over the Senators, and will now switch places with Jet Greaves, who was sent down in a corresponding move. As long as Elvis Merzlikins (lower body) remains unavailable, the Jackets will likely continue to rotate their netminders to give everybody in the organization a look.

  • Blue Jackets' Jon Gillies: Earns win in season debut

Gillies stopped 24 of 27 shots in Sunday's 4-3 overtime win over the Senators. Gillies struggled early in his first outing of the season, allowing three goals in the first period, but he settled down and blanked Ottawa the rest of the way en route to a 4-3 overtime victory. The 29-year-old netminder went 3-10-2 last season with an .887 save percentage in 20 appearances between St. Louis and New Jersey. Gillies should continue to back up Michael Hutchinson while Elvis Merzlikins (lower body) is sidelined.

  • Blue Jackets' Jon Gillies: Joins big club

Gillies was recalled from AHL Cleveland on Sunday. The 28-year-old's promotion could mean that Elvis Merzlikins (leg) is expected to miss some time. Gillies was acquired from Arizona as organizational depth earlier this month.

  • Blue Jackets' Jon Gillies: Traded to Columbus

Gillies was traded from Arizona to the Blue Jackets in exchange for Jakub Voracek and a 2023 sixth-round pick Thursday. The Blue Jackets traded Joonas Korpisalo to the Kings on Wednesday, and although Jonathan Quick was included in the return, Columbus is expected to try and flip Quick to a contender prior to Friday's trade deadline, so the team was in need of organizational depth at goaltender, leading to Thursday's acquisition of Gillies. Gillies hasn't appeared in an NHL contest this season, and even if Quick ends up getting moved, Gillies will likely stick with AHL Cleveland for the remainder of the 2022-23 campaign.

  • Coyotes' Jon Gillies: Snags two-way deal

Gillies signed a one-year, two-way contract with the Coyotes on Wednesday. Gillies bounced around the NHL, AHL and even the ECHL in 2021-22, but he spent most of his time with the Devils, going 3-10-0 while posting a sub-par 3.76 GAA and .885 save percentage through 19 appearances. The Coyotes may not be done adding netminders, but for now, Gillies will slot in as the team's No. 2 option in goal behind Karel Vejmelka.

  • Devils' Jon Gillies: Tough OT loss to Canes

Gillies made 26 saves in Saturday's 3-2 overtime loss to the Hurricanes. It was a bitter loss to take for Gillies, who carried a shutout into the final five minutes of the third period only for bad bounces and bad defensive play to hand the win to Carolina. The 28-year-old netminder was making his first start in over a month, but the performance was likely good enough to earn him more work over the Devils' final four games of the season despite his 3.82 GAA and .883 save percentage.

  • Devils' Jon Gillies: Facing Hurricanes

Gillies will start between the pipes in Saturday's home game versus Carolina, Mike Morreale of NHL.com reports. Gillies hasn't started in goal since March 19 versus Edmonton, when he surrendered five goals on 39 shots en route to a 6-3 defeat. He'll try to pick up his fourth win of the year in a tough home matchup with a Hurricanes team that's 22-12-4 on the road this season.

  • Devils' Jon Gillies: Appears in relief

Gillies made 17 saves in relief after taking the net against the Bruins at the 9:01 mark of the second period in Thursday's 8-1 loss. He allowed three goals. The Devils were on their heels from the opening minute and never recovered, and starter Nico Daws was chased with the Bruins up 5-1. Daws had made five straight starts, so Gillies could be in line for a start very soon. The Devils play back-to-back on Saturday and Sunday against the Panthers and Islanders.

  • Devils' Jon Gillies: Buried by Oilers

Gillies stopped 34 of 39 shots in Saturday's 6-3 loss to the Oilers. Edmonton's final goal was scored into an empty net. The Devils actually took a 3-2 lead early in the third period, but Gillies was helpless against the Oilers' onslaught over the final 11 minutes of the game. He hasn't won a game in over a month, last picking up a victory Feb. 10 in St. Louis, and on the season the netminder is saddled with a 3.80 GAA and .884 save percentage.

  • Devils' Jon Gillies: Starting in Edmonton

Gillies will guard the road cage during Saturday's matchup with the Oilers, Amanda Stein of the Devils' official site reports. Gillies struggled in his last start Feb. 25 versus Chicago, allowing six goals on 35 shots en route to an 8-5 loss. He'll try to snap his personal three-game losing streak in a road matchup with an Edmonton team that's averaging 3.40 goals per game at home this season, 10th in the NHL.

  • Devils' Jon Gillies: Crushed by Chicago

Gillies stopped 29 of 35 shots in Friday's 8-5 loss to Chicago. Even with two empty-net goals not counting against his stats, this was a rough night for Gillies. The Devils actually tied the game at 4-4 midway through the third period, but two Chicago tallies in a 41-second span soon afterward spelled the difference. Gillies has lost three straight starts while coughing up 15 goals, and his 3.70 GAA and .887 save percentage on the season make him ripe to be passed up on the depth chart by prospect Nico Daws if the 21-year-old plays well.

  • Devils' Jon Gillies: Draws fourth straight start

Gillies will guard the home goal Tuesday versus the Lightning. Gillies is set to make his fourth straight start. In the last three games, he's gone 2-1-0 with eight goals allowed on 96 shots. The 28-year-old is likely to be challenged against the Lightning's dangerous offense, so he's a risky fantasy play Tuesday.

  • Devils' Jon Gillies: Can't stop Penguins

Gillies gave up three goals on 34 shots in Sunday's 4-2 loss to the Penguins. The fourth goal was an empty-netter. Gillies did well to keep things close, but the Penguins' offense was just a bit better Sunday. The 28-year-old had won his previous two starts before this setback. Gillies has a 3-7-1 record with a 3.22 GAA and a .900 save percentage in 12 appearances this season. He remains the Devils' preferred option in net over Nico Daws while Mackenzie Blackwood (heel) is on injured reserve.

  • Devils' Jon Gillies: Doubles season win total

Gillies made 30 saves in Tuesday's 7-1 win over Montreal. Gillies capitalized on the favorable matchup against the last-place Canadiens to capture his second win of the season. He also got seven goals of support in a Jan. 22 win over Carolina, but the Devils suffered seven consecutive regulation losses in between those victories while scoring more than two goals only once in that stretch. New Jersey will likely continue to ride the tandem of Gillies and Nico Daws in net for the duration of Mackenzie Blackwood's (heel) absence.

  • Devils' Jon Gillies: In goal versus Canadiens

Gillies will guard the road goal Tuesday versus the Canadiens. Nico Daws struggled in Monday's loss to the Senators, so it'll be Gillies' turn in goal in the second half of a back-to-back. The 28-year-old Gillies has posted a poor 1-6-0 record with a 3.50 GAA and an .889 save percentage in eight games with the Devils this season, but the Canadiens are among the worst teams in the league, giving him a good chance of success.

  • Devils' Jon Gillies: In goal Tuesday

Gillies will guard the home goal Tuesday versus the Maple Leafs. Gillies backed up Akira Schmid in Monday's 6-4 loss to the Leafs, so it's not surprising to see the former draw the start. Gillies has lost his last three decisions, allowing nine goals across four appearances. The Maple Leafs pose a notable threat for any goal with their top-heavy offense.

  • Devils' Jon Gillies: Takes tough-luck loss

Gillies made 21 saves on 23 shots in a 2-1 loss to the Hurricanes on Saturday. Gillies did his best in this one, but that was not quite enough against the Canes. The 28-year-old has lost back-to-back starts and has just one win over his last six appearances. Funny enough (as long as you don't roster him), Gillies allowed four goals in the win but has allowed three goals or less in each of the losses over that span.
