Paul Bittner: No qualifying offer coming
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Bittner won't receive a qualifying offer from Columbus and will become an unrestricted free agent, Aaron Portzline of The Athletic reports.

After four seasons playing with AHL Cleveland, Bittner has still been unable to break into the Blue Jackets' lineup. He was selected by the club with the 38th overall pick of the 2015 NHL Draft, but it seems Columbus has seen enough of the 23-year-old winger.

Blue Jackets' Paul Bittner: Fully recovered from hip, sports hernia surgeries
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Bittner has looked fully healthy through the first couple of days of the Traverse City prospect tournament, The Columbus Dispatch reports. "It just feels so good to be out here again, playing hard, playing carefree," Bittner said. "I've played, what, two games in the last eight months?"

The young power forward, selected 35th overall in 2015 by the Blue Jackets, underwent hip surgery in December to end his junior career prematurely. He returned to play in two games for AHL Lake Erie late last season before needing surgery again, this time for a sports hernia. Bittner will likely spend most or all of 2016-2017 playing for the reigning Calder Cup champs, but if he stays healthy he could get his first cup of coffee with the big club, and put himself firmly in Columbus' future plans.

Blue Jackets' Paul Bittner: Progressing well from hip injury
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Bittner, a prospect recovering from a hip injury that required surgery last December, recently had a doctor visit that yielded positive results. The power forward is currently a member of the WHL's Portland Winterhawks, who hope Bittner can return for the playoffs which begin in late March, Jason Vondersmith of the Portland Tribune reports.

Bittner was selected by the Blue Jackets with a second-round (38th overall) pick in the 2015 NHL Entry Draft. He's only 19 years old but is 6-foot-4, 204 pounds and uses that size to his advantage while handling the puck, accumulating 78 goals and 86 assists between four seasons with the Winterhawks. His anticipated return in March assumes that Portland actually ends up in the postseason - currently, the team is ranked sixth in the WHL's Western Conference with a record of 25-21-2.

Blue Jackets' Paul Bittner: Out indefinitely after hip surgery
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Bittner underwent hip surgery last weekend and will be out indefinitely, the Columbus Dispatch reports.

He has 10 goals and 21 points in 25 games this season for WHL Portland. Bittner was set to attend Team USA's selection camp for the World Junior Championships, but instead he'll be focusing on his rehab over the holidays.
