Pionk is in the midst of a career year, with 44 points (25 on the power play), 168 shots on goal and 159 hits through 69 contests. Expect the 24-year-old defenseman to remain the quarterback of the top man-advantage unit in Winnipeg -- it's been a productive role for Pionk thus far.

His key role in the Jets' star-loaded power play should keep the 24-year-old as a viable fantasy asset through the end of the year.

The defenseman even had a major hand in the Ottawa offense -- with Winnpeg up 3-1 late in the second period, Pionk fanned on a clearing attempt to inadvertently set up the Sens' Mikkel Boedker for an unassisted tally. Pionk is rolling right now with three points in his last four games. With the Jets' blue line dealing with a number of injuries, the 24-year-old Pionk will continue to log big minutes, including with the No. 1 power-play unit, which will set him up well to continue contributing offensively.

Pionk officially filed for arbitration Friday.
Acquired by Winnipeg in the deal that sent Jacob Trouba to New York, Pionk opted for arbitration ahead of Friday afternoon's deadline. Pionk was qualified by Winnipeg on Tuesday.
Pionk was brought in by the Jets in exchange for Jacob Trouba and the 20th overall pick in the 2019 NHL Draft (Ville Heinola), which means he was always on the club's list for receiving a qualifying offer. The blueliner won't cost the team as much as Trouba would have, but he still will put a dent in its approximately $23.8 million cap space.
Pionk was traded to the Jets along with the 20th overall pick in the 2019 NHL Draft in exchange for Jacob Trouba.
Like Trouba, Pionk is also a restricted free agent so Winnipeg is only acquiring his rights. However, he will be much more affordable to extend. The 23-year-old has shown promise though, notching six goals and 26 points while racking up 138 hits during the 2018-19 campaign. Pionk should be a decent bottom-four defenseman for the Jets next season.
