The Sharks activated Chmelevski to the taxi squad via AHL San Jose on Thursday, Curtis Pashelka of The San Jose Mercury News reports.
Chmelevski is expected to see most of his action in the minors this season, but he got a shot to join the team for practice on an emergency basis. In 42 games with AHL San Jose last season, the 21-year-old racked up 11 goals and 27 points over that span.
Chmelevski racked up two goals and two assists to help OHL Ottawa to a 7-2 victory over Guelph in Game 1 of the OHL Finals on Thursday.
The 67's are now a perfect 13-0 in this postseason and 10 of those victories have come by more than one goal. Chmelevski has done his part with 25 points in those 13 contests. He is second in OHL playoff scoring behind Guelph's Nick Suzuki (32 points). A sixth-round pick of San Jose (185th overall) in 2017, the kid they call "Sasha" looks like a steal for the Sharks. Chmelevski will log his first full professional season in 2019-20.

Chmelevski's banner year continues. Following Monday's explosion, the 2017 sixth-round selection has now posted 29 goals and 65 points in 46 games this season for the 67's. Chmelevski also did a nice job in a depth role in helping Team USA win a silver medal at the World Junior Championship in January. Chmelevski has developed into one of the few true bright spots in what is a lean San Jose prospect pool.

Make it back-to-back four-point efforts for San Jose's sixth-round selection in 2017. Not only has Chmelevski had a terrific year offensively for the 67's (34 points in 26 games), he has developed into one of the OHL's top face-off specialists. The Michigan native is firmly on Team USA's radar for a depth role at next month's World Junior Championship. Chmelevski signed his entry-level deal with the Sharks in April.

The 18-year-old center played with the Ottawa 67's of the OHL this season, and he tore it up before being knocked out of the playoffs. Chmelevski racked up 35 goals and 76 points in 68 games, and he added one goal and four assists in five playoff games. The 2017 sixth-round pick will spend the the rest of the season with AHL San Jose.
Chmelevski picked up a hat trick in OHL Ottawa's 11-3 drubbing of Saginaw on Saturday.
Saginaw is the worst team in the OHL but that doesn't take away from the fact that Chmelevski is off to a good start this season. His eight goals and 13 points in 15 games are great but his underlying stats are even more impressive. "Sasha" has 56 shots on goal in those 15 contests and he has won 132 of 220 face-offs. Considered a potential third or fourth round prospect, the Sharks did well to snatch up Chmelveski in the sixth round this past June.
