O'Brien has been reassigned to AHL San Diego.
In the wake of a Hampus Lindholm upper-body injury, O'Brien served as the seventh defenseman against the Lightning this past Saturday. However, he ultimately was not used in the contest and has yet to make his season debut with the parent club.
O'Brien was recalled by the Ducks on Saturday.
Hampus Lindholm (upper body) has been ruled out of Saturday's game against the Lightning, so O'Brien was recalled to serve as the team's seventh defenseman in his absence. O'Brien has tallied two assists in 13 games with AHL San Diego this season, and likely won't draw into the Ducks' lineup during his stay with the big club unless Lindholm is forced to miss extended time.
O'Brien was placed on waivers Sunday, the Los Angeles Times reports. As long as he clears waivers, O'Brien will head to AHL San Diego for the start of the 2015-16 season. He played in nine regular season games with the Panthers last year, but spent the majority of his time in AHL San Antonio. During his time with San Antonio, he notched 11 goals and 19 assists over 51 games. Whether or not another team claims him off waivers, expect him to spend a lot of time in the AHL moving forward.
