  • Maple Leafs' Curtis McElhinney: Impenetrable Friday

by RotoWire Staff | Special to CBSSports.com
(9/22/18) McElhinney was a perfect 20-for-20 in save opportunities over the first half of Friday's 5-3 home win over the Sabres.

It was expected that McElhinney would start, but he replaced Garret Sparks after the Calder Cup champion accounted for all three goals allowed. With John Tavares and Auston Matthews leading the offense, it wouldn't be surprising to see McElhinney emerge as a quality streaming option this season. The Ontario native went 11-5-1 over 18 games last season.

Maple Leafs' Curtis McElhinney: Drawing another start

by RotoWire Staff | Special to CBSSports.com
(9/21/18) McElhinney is projected to start Friday evening against the visiting Sabres, according to Kristen Shilton of TSN.ca.

McElhinney continues to see starts for the Maple Leafs during the preseason, despite the training-camp presence of 2018 Calder Cup champion netminder Garret Sparks, who is expected to at least make a relief appearance in this next contest. Barring a disastrous finish to camp for McElhinney, it appears that he will once again serve as the primary backup to Frederik Andersen with the parent club this season.

Maple Leafs' Curtis McElhinney: Bounces back after early goal against

by RotoWire Staff | Special to CBSSports.com
(9/18/18) McElhinney gave up one goal on 13 shots before giving way to Garret Sparks in Tuesday's 4-1 preseason win over the Senators.

McElhinney was beaten by Ryan Dzingel just 21 seconds in, but he recovered nicely after that. While Sparks stopped all 22 shots he faced, McElhinney still has the inside track to earn Toronto's backup job behind Frederik Andersen.

Maple Leafs' Curtis McElhinney: Gets starting nod Tuesday

by RotoWire Staff | Special to CBSSports.com
(9/18/18) McElhinney will protect the net in Tuesday's preseason game against the Senators, Kristen Shilton of TSN.ca reports.

McElhinney will have some solid offensive support with new-arrival John Tavares making his Maple Leafs debut. He played 18 games last season, marking a stellar .934 save percentage and 2.15 GAA, but he'll take a backup role again this campaign to a younger Frederick Andersen.

Maple Leafs' Curtis McElhinney: Will join Canada for Worlds

by RotoWire Staff | Special to CBSSports.com
(4/27/18) McElhinney will play for Canada at the 2018 IIHF World Championship, Terry Koshan of the Toronto Sun reports.

McElhinney wrapped up a decent season with the Maple Leafs, in which he posted an 11-5-1 record, including three shutouts, as the backup to Frederik Andersen. The 34-year-old is under contract with Toronto next year, which means fantasy owners can probably expect more of the same -- around 20 games played with a decent GAA and save percentage -- although Garret Sparks and Calvin Pickard could challenge McElhinney for the No. 2 job during training camp.
