Larkin is already gelling with Alex DeBrincat, who arrived in Detroit after an offseason sign-and-trade transaction. Last season, Larkin tied personal bests based on 32 goals and 47 assists, and he showed marked improvement on the man advantage with 31 points, smashing previous career highs in that key special teams spot. Red Wings' Ville Husso: Snags win in preseason debut
Husso set aside 15 of 16 shots en route to a 5-2 preseason win over the Capitals on Saturday.
Husso looked sharp in his preseason debut, with the only damage against him coming in the form of a Dylan Strome power-play tally. Coach Derek Lalonde said last week that Husso will manage a workload similar to what he endured last season, meaning the Finnish netminder figures to log between 55-58 starts. When he needs a breather during the regular season, James Reimer -- whom the Wings signed in free agency -- would be next in line to get the call as the No. 2 backstop.

Red Wings' Robby Fabbri: Avoids serious injury
Fabbri's upper-body injury from Saturday's 5-2 preseason win over the Capitals is not expected to keep him out long, Ansar Khan of MLive.com reports.
Fabbri has been a model for perseverance, opting to continue his career despite having to work past three ACL surgeries. "We're probably being a little cautious there," coach Derek Lalonde said. "If he doesn't practice (Sunday), I think we'll expect him sometime early in the week to practice. I don't think it's anything long term." Last year, Fabbri managed a career-high shooting percentage (20) to go along with 16 points through 28 games before getting shut down in March.

Danielson potted a goal in his NHL preseason debut Tuesday, leading to a 4-3 win over the Penguins.
Danielson will be an exciting player to watch in training camp, as the Wings deemed him worthy of the ninth overall pick in this year's draft. Of course, Detroit has had some hits and misses when it comes to its top picks at forward in recent years. Filip Zadina, who is now with the Sharks, didn't pan out after the team from Motown took him sixth overall in the 2018 Draft, but Lucas Raymond, its No. 4 overall pick from 2020, figures to be a mainstay on the top line for the foreseeable future. Lauded for his two-way skills, Danielson inked a three-year, entry-level contract in July. The strong power pivot tore his way through the WHL last season, adding 33 goals and 45 assists in 68 games for the Wheat Kings.

The Red Wings undoubtedly were hoping to get a long look at Mazur in training camp, but the team's third-round (70th overall) pick from 2021 sustained the injury during the Traverse City Prospects Tournament on Sept. 14. This is particularly unfortunate, since the injury was initially considered minor. Known for his competitive spirit and grit, Mazur likely will require additional seasoning with AHL Grand Rapids when healthy. The 21-year-old has yet to make his NHL debut with the Original Six club.

Husso drew a career-high 56 starts in his debut campaign with the Red Wings, posting a 26-22-7 record, 3.11 GAA and .896 save percentage in the process. The rate stats left a lot to be desired from a fantasy perspective, but this article corroborates the idea that he was thrown into the fire too often. The Finn is entering just his fourth season at 28 years old, with the offseason additions of James Reimer, Alex Lyon and Michael Hutchinson figuring to give the team some much needed depth in goal. "We have a plan on what the season will look like," coach Derek Lalonde said of Husso. "It's probably a day-to-day thing, but we foresee him (in) the 55, 56-58 range. Hopefully, we can manage it a little bit better than we did last year in the volume of when and where."
