Top Sharks News

  • Sharks' Tomas Hertl: Back in action

Hertl (lower body) will play Tuesday night against host Edmonton, Kevin Kurz of The Athletic reports.

Hertl returns on a day where there's only one game on the schedule, but he'll be a sneaky play in single-game DFS contests since not everyone will be aware that he's back from a two-game injury layoff. We're talking about a player who's averaging a point per game (five goals, 11 assists) this season and always has a spot reserved for him on the man advantage.

  • Sharks' Martin Jones: Facing Oilers

Jones will start between the pipes in Tuesday's home game against Edmonton, Kevin Kurz of The Athletic reports.

Jones was shaky in his last start, surrendering five goals on 34 shots en route to a 5-3 loss to the Maple Leafs on Thursday. The 28-year-old netminder will look to bounce back and pick up his 10th victory of the season in a home matchup with an Oilers team that's averaging 3.45 goals per game on the road this campaign, 10th in the NHL.

  • Sharks' Dylan Gambrell: Sent to AHL affiliate

The Sharks reassigned Gambrell to AHL San Jose on Tuesday, Kevin Kurz of The Athletic reports.

Gambrell will continue to be one of the first players the Sharks turn to when looking for reinforcements up front, but the 22-year-old forward won't have any fantasy value in 2018-19. He'll hope to land an everyday role with the big club next season.

  • Sharks' Lukas Radil: Promoted to top level

The Sharks recalled Radil from AHL San Jose on Tuesday, Kevin Kurz of The Athletic reports.

San Jose sent forward Dylan Gambrell to the minors in a corresponding move, so Radil will presumably round out the team's depth up front for the foreseeable future. The 28-year-old has tallied one goal and six points in 11 AHL appearances this season.

  • Sharks' Tomas Hertl: Could play Tuesday

Hertl (lower body) is hoping to face Edmonton on Tuesday, Paul Gackle of The Mercury News reports.

Hertl has missed five games with a lower-body injury, but it appears as though he could return Tuesday at home versus the Oilers. On the season, the 25-year-old has five goals and 16 points in 16 games.

  • Sharks' Logan Couture: Snaps three-game pointless streak

Couture recorded three assists in a 4-0 victory against the Blues on Saturday.

The 29-year-old experienced a strong start to the season, but he slowed down at the beginning of November. In the six games prior to Saturday, he had just one assist and a minus-8 rating. Hopefully this is the start of another scoring spree for Couture, who despite the recent struggles, still has six goals and 20 points in 21 games this season.

  • Sharks' Erik Karlsson: Heating up

Karlsson scored a goal and an assist in a 4-0 victory against the Blues on Saturday.

It's been a slow start with the Sharks this season, but owners just had to remain patient, and Karlsson appears ready to reward anyone who has been. He has recorded multiple points in each of the last two games, and he has five points in the past three contests. His goal Saturday was also his first of the season. This mini-hot streak has his point total up to 12 in 21 games. It wouldn't at all be a surprise if Karlsson is one of the best fantasy defensemen in the NHL during the final three-quarters of the season.

  • Sharks' Joe Pavelski: Continues goal-scoring explosion

Pavelski scored twice in a 4-0 victory against the Blues on Saturday night.

That means Pavelski has now tallied six goals in the last four games. Additionally, he has three assists during that stretch. Interestingly, those are actually the only three assists Pavelski has this season, but this offensive explosion has him up to 13 goals in 21 games. At some point, his 21.3 shooting percentage will drop, but one has to figure the assists will start to come any moment too. Pavelski has recorded at least 39 assists in each of the last three seasons. Feel free to ride out this hot streak.

  • Sharks' Aaron Dell: Records first shutout

Dell stopped 30 shots in a 4-0 shutout victory against the Blues on Saturday.

The Sharks' No. 2 netminder didn't come into the night with very good numbers, but a shutout will make huge corrections this early in the season. After the shutout, Dell is 2-2-2 with a .920 save percentage and 2.47 GAA. In the right matchup, Dell is a quality streaming option, but keep in mind that he has posted a save percentage below .890 in three of his six starts this season.

  • Sharks' Aaron Dell: On puck patrol Saturday

Dell will start in goal Saturday night against the visiting Blues.

Dell will be matched against a Blues team that defeated the Golden Knights 4-1 in Vegas on Friday night. San Jose's No. 2 goalie has an uninspiring 1-2-2 record, 2.96 GAA and .905 save percentage this season, but the silver lining is that the Blues rank 21st in high-danger chances based on a 46.46-percent clip.

  • Sharks' Dylan Gambrell: Promoted to top level

The Sharks promoted Gambrell to the active roster from AHL San Jose on Friday.

Gambrell has gotten off to a hot start, notching six points through seven games for the Barracuda. He had drawn into one contest with the Sharks this season and could have another opportunity to do so Saturday against the Blues.

  • Sharks' Rourke Chartier: Sent to bus league

The Sharks assigned Chartier to AHL San Jose on Friday.

Chartier has only scored one goal while averaging 9:24 of ice time in 13 appearances with the big club this campaign, so this move won't affect any fantasy rosters. The 22-year-old pivot will return to a prominent role with AHL San Jose, where he'll remain for the foreseeable future.

  • Sharks' Tomas Hertl: Doubtful against Blues

Hertl (lower body) will "probably not" be available versus St. Louis on Saturday according to coach Peter DeBoer, Kevin Kurz of The Athletic reports.

Hertl is slated to miss his fifth game in the Sharks' previous seven contests due to multiple injuries. The winger is currently on a point-per-game pace in his 16 outings while averaging 17:57 of ice time. Marcus Sorensen figures to continue slotting into a top-six role with Hertl sidelined.

  • Sharks' Brent Burns: Goals not coming despite massive shot totals

Burns recorded a power-play assist and eight shots in Thursday's 5-3 loss to Toronto.

Burns has no goals to show for the 26 pucks he's put on net in the past five games. After shooting just 3.6 percent last season, the career 7.0 percent shooter's converting at only 4.5 percent this season. Despite the poor luck, Burns is performing above a point-per-game pace with 22 points in 20 games. Few would have predicted Burns to have more than twice as many points as new teammate Erik Karlsson at this point.

  • Sharks' Joe Pavelski: Seven points in last three games

Pavelski recorded a power-play goal and an even-strength assist in Thursday's 5-3 loss to Toronto.

After potting his 11th goal, Pavelski added what was just his third assist of the season. All three of those helpers, along with four goals, have come over the past three games, so the veteran forward's firing on all cylinders right now. Any decline in his 18.6 shooting percentage should be offset by higher assist totals moving forward.

  • Sharks' Erik Karlsson: Two assists in loss to Leafs

Karlsson recorded two helpers -- one on the power play -- and four shots in Thursday's 5-3 loss to the Sharks.

Karlsson stepped up against a familiar Eastern Conference foe from his days with the Senators, producing just his second multi-point game with the Sharks. Owners were certainly hoping for more than zero goals and 10 assists 20 games into his Sharks tenure, but Karlsson is still expected to pick up the pace moving forward.
