The Blue Jackets have a lot to work on, but already started this year. Adding Seth Jones was a big plus, while Brandon Saad affirmed the team's decision to acquire him with a 31-goal season. Now they have to get Sergei Bobrovsky back on track and see if a full season of John Tortorella makes a difference one way or the other.
Ugly losses have been piling up for the Blue Jackets heading into the end of the season. John Tortorella's patience is running out. Lucky for him, the season is almost over.
John Tortorella is none too pleased with his team's play of late. They've lost four of their last five and have been run out of the building in a few recent games. The good news, however, is that the team has signed top prospect Zach Werenski for next season.
The Blue Jackets appear to be tail-spinning in the final weeks of the season. That's good news for draft position, but won't make a team expected to keep many of its current players feel very good. Summer can't come soon enough.
Losses in four of their last six had the Blue Jackets slipping closer to last place in the East, but it doesn't look like they'll be catching the Maple Leafs who trail Columbus by seven points.
The Blue Jackets have won three of their last five games and are also trying to finish the season with some positivity. There is some interesting work ahead for the front office, as this team looks to build up the group they have.
The Blue Jackets did absolutely nothing at the deadline, but that's OK since their most important trade was made nearly two months ago. Seth Jones is the new centerpiece on defense. They could have sold more pieces, but it may be better to reassess where they're at in the offseason.
The Jackets are moving a little further away from last place and the best odds to get the top pick. Meanwhile, GM Jarmo Kekalainen has said he doesn't feel the need to blow everything up. They still should be exploring their options, but coming out of this season with Seth Jones is going to be a big plus already.
The Blue Jackets have won six of their last eight games. It's been a really good run for a team that hasn't had much to smile about this year. New addition Seth Jones continues to impress as the team's No. 1 defenseman and they're starting to show signs of honest to goodness improvement.
The Jackets have won four of their last five games and new acquisition Seth Jones is thriving. He has seven assists in 13 games and is averaging over 24 minutes a game. That deal's impact should be felt for years to come in Columbus.
Preseason Power Rankings
The Blue Jackets still should be better than they were last year, but they're going to have to overcome a disappointing 0-3-0 start. After all the optimism surrounding the club this summer, this may be a bit of a shock.
