The Isles have some unfortunate injuries to contend with as they head into the postseason. They dropped into the first wild-card spot in the East, but John Tavares continues to have game-breaking potential. This playoff series against the Panthers could be a significant one for the franchise's direction after this season.
The injuries have piled up for the Islanders at a most inopportune time. They'll have to hope Travis Hamonic can get back before what is sure to be a tough postseason matchup no matter where the Isles finish.
The Islanders have lost five of their last seven games and look like they'll have to settle for a wild-card spot, barring some wild swings late. It seems they miss Jaroslav Halak quite a bit.

The Isles have won eight of their last 11 games and now sit just one point behind the Rangers with two games in hand. Losing goalie Jaroslav Halak long-term to injury remains a big concern, though.

The Islanders made one minor move on deadline day, adding Shane Prince to the forward mix. They did keep everything else intact, though. Most importantly, Travis Hamonic is still an Islander, keeping that blue line on solid ground.
The Isles have been playing solidly enough with five wins over their last seven games, but their position in the playoffs remains precarious. They're five points behind the Rangers for second in the Atlantic and only one point ahead of the Pittsburgh Penguins for third.
The Isles continue battling for position in the Metropolitan Division. Winning four of their last five will sure help. Now the question becomes, what, if anything, might Garth Snow try at the deadline to help add to this team?
The Isles have dropped into the wild-card spot as their recent stretch coincided with hot streaks from both the Rangers and Penguins. After taking on the Blue Jackets Tuesday, they enter an extremely challenging stretch in their schedule with multiple games against teams in playoff position.
Preseason Power Rankings
Due to some unfortunate scheduling, the Islanders had to play the defending Stanley Cup champion without their starting goaltender. They still managed to look decent enough in losses before earning their first win Monday against a tough Jets club.
