2018 Winter Olympics: Hockey player takes a flying skate to the face, keeps playing
Attempting to grab a loose puck in an Olympic showdown, Noway's Kristian Forsberg ends up bloodied
Men's ice hockey can be a bloody sport.
But it's not as often that the blood comes from a skate taken directly to the face.
That's what occurred on Thursday when a game between Norway and Sweden at the 2018 Winter Olympics left Kristian Forsberg, a 31-year-old Norwegian veteran, with a gut-wrenching slash after the skate of a falling Joel Lundqvist caught him on the cheek.

This was so scary. Joel Lundqvist's skate catches Kristian Forsberg. The visor took most of the blade. pic.twitter.com/ey6lziX1Nj

As fans pointed out on Twitter, Forsberg's visor appeared to catch most of the skate, but that didn't leave the forward without a sliced face and a nose that gushed blood. As The Sun reported, Lundqvist got a high-sticking penalty after the incident, while Forsberg, who was escorted off the ice as a result of his injury, also earned a cross-checking penalty.
The Norwegian did, however, return to the game in the third period, complete with a clean jersey.
Full video of his collision with Lundqvist, brother of New York Rangers goalie Henrik Lundqvist, can be seen on NBC's Olympics website.
