The world says goodbye and thanks to London on Sunday after a terrific 2012 Olympic Games. (Presswire)

Well, friends, we have sadly come to the end. The Olympic Games of 2012 are almost over as Sunday marks the 16th and final day of action. If you're trying to watch there are a variety of options including -- mercifully -- a live stream of the Closing Ceremony thanks to NBC.

Trying to watch the events beforehand? Even with NBC now streaming every event live online, the wild array of events -- and difficulty in finding live events, for anyone like us not interested in avoiding spoilers all day -- can make the television viewing experience a bit bewildering.

But we're here to help. Here's our chronological list of the events U.S. Olympic fans should consider watching, and where, for Sunday, Aug. 12. All times Eastern and all events are live action unless otherwise noted. (Events broadcast on NBC will be on a one-hour delay for Mountain and Pacific viewers. Sorry.) Many secondary events are also subject to change.

Here's what awaits you Sunday:

5:20 a.m. Men's Water Polo, Placement match, United States vs. Australia.

If you're up early for some reason on Sunday, there's one final match for the Americans in the pool as they take on the Aussies in a placement match.

6:00 a.m. Men's Basketball, Bronze Medal match, Russia vs. Argentina. Live on NBC Sports Network and NBCOlympics.com.

10:00 a.m. Men's basketball, Gold Medal match, United States vs. Spain. Live on NBC and NBCOlympics.com.

You kind of feel like Michael Buffer should announce the introductions for this one as the main events of the Olympics takes place Sunday.

This will be a rematch of the Gold Medal game in Beijing and although there's plenty of mutual respect between the two teams with a number of NBA stars on the Spanish side, this should be another grudge match as Team USA looks to leave a lasting impression on the history books. In 2008 this was a close, hard-fought game as Spain made the U.S. play in a close game for once. LeBron James, Kevin Durant and, especially, Carmelo Anthony have been terrific this tournament and need one more big game performance for the golden prize.

6:00 a.m. Men's Marathon, live on NBC and NBCSports.com

It will be a memorable final track event at these Games as the Men's marathon runs by Big Ben, St. Paul's Cathedral, London Bridge, the Tower of London and numerous other London landmarks to tackle 26.2 miles for an Olympic medal. Kenyan's Emmanuel Mutai, Wilson Kipsang and Abel Kirui are expected to take all three spots on the podium but will face a stiff challenge from the Ethiopians. Americans Meb Keflezighi, Abdi Abdirahman and Ryan Hall all could be in the mix late with good runs. Unlike previous marathons, the 2012 edition won't finish in the Olympic Stadium but rather will end right by Buckingham Palace.

4:00 p.m., live on NBCOlympics.com, tape-delayed on NBC at 8 p.m.

The Games of the XXX Olympiad come to a formal end at the Olympic Stadium as an estimated 750 million people around the world look on. Called "A Symphony of British Music," the event is rumored to feature acts from The Who, the Spice Girls, Rolling Stones, George Michael, Adele and Sir Paul McCartney among others. Muse will also perform the official song of the 2012 Olympics, "Survival," and comedian Eric Idle of Monty Python fame is supposedly going to perform.

"If the opening ceremony was the wedding, then we're the wedding reception," music director David Arnold told the Daily Telegraph.

The ceremony will also feature the Olympic Cauldron being extinguished to end the games as a handover occurs to pass on the tradition to the next host city in 2016, Rio de Janeiro. For the United States, 23-year-old track athlete and shooting survivor Bryshon Nellum will carry the flag into the stadium.
