08/17/17WRJuJu Smith-SchusterKneeQUESTIONABLESmith-Schuster has been diagnosed with a bone bruise in his knee, Ray Fittipaldo of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports.

The ailment is just the most recent for the rookie wideout, who dealt with a slight ankle injury at the beginning of training camp and was evaluated for a potential concussion in the Steelers' first game of the preseason. Head coach Mike Tomlin termed Smith-Schuster "day-to-day" Thursday, which doesn't shed light on his potential to play Sunday versus the Falcons. Perhaps more important is falling behind his primary competition for the slot receiver role, Eli Rogers, due to his continued visits to the trainer's room.

08/05/17TEScott OrndoffUndisclosedQUESTIONABLEOrndoff (undisclosed) was removed from the Steelers' injured reserve list after reaching an injury settlement with the team.

It still isn't clear what Orndoff is tending to. When healthy, he's now free to sign elsewhere.

08/04/17LBRyan ShazierHamstringQUESTIONABLEShazier (hamstring) was a limited participant in practice Thursday, Jeremy Fowler of ESPN reports.

Shazier almost certainly won't be available for Sunday's preseason contest against the Falcons, but he's at least progressing from a hamstring injury that has kept him sidelined for the last two weeks. It also wouldn't be surprising if the Steelers take precautionary measures with Shazier throughout the remainder of the preseason to ensure his health for the start of the regular season.

08/03/17QBBen RoethlisbergerAnkleQUESTIONABLERoethlisberger (ankle) was told he won't play in Sunday's preseason game against Atlanta, ESPN.com's Jeremy Fowler reports.

Roethlisberger has been nursing a minor ankle injury for the past couple weeks, and while he'd probably be fine to play through it in the regular season, the Steelers will wait until Aug. 26 against the Colts to have their starting quarterback make his preseason debut. Rookie fourth-round pick Joshua Dobbs is expected to start Sunday, though No. 2 QB Landry Jones (abdominal) might be ready after returning to practice Wednesday.

08/01/17RBLe'Veon BellGroinQUESTIONABLEBell was close to agreement on a long-term contract prior to last month's deadline for franchise-tag players to sign extensions, ESPN's Jeremy Fowler reports.

Bell was reportedly on the verge of a five-year contract worth over $12 million annually, but the deadline obviously passed without him signing, thus forcing the Steelers and his representatives to have to revisit negotiations after this season. While Bell is believed to be holding out for a salary of $15 million in any extension, the tailback still hasn't inked his $12.1 million tender for this season, allowing him to remain away from the team to this point without penalty. It remains to be seen when Bell will sign his contract, but fantasy owners should be relieved by his stated intention to play a full campaign, meaning he'll be back in the fold sometime before Week 1.

08/01/17QBLandry JonesAbdomenQUESTIONABLEJones (abdomen) practiced Wednesday, Ray Fittipaldo of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports.

Jones has been plagued with the abdomen issue for little over two weeks now. It seems like he's closing in on a return to full health, but we should garner a better understanding of his progress by how he holds up in practice over the next week or so. Jones is expected to be Pittsburgh's backup quarterback for the season opener.

08/01/17DLStephon TuittAnkleQUESTIONABLETuitt (ankle) started last Friday's preseason opener against the Giants.

Tuitt left practice a little over two weeks ago with an ankle injury, but his active status in last Friday's preseason contest indicates he's overcome the ailment. Tuitt started in his expected role at right defensive end Friday night, but he didn't record any tackles in the one quarter he played in.

07/31/17WRMartavis BryantSuspensionSUSPENDBryant (suspension) is listed as the starter opposite Antonio Brown on the Steelers' most recent depth chart, Bob Labriola of the team's official site reports.

There was never much doubt Bryant would take back the No. 2 receiver job, as he's reportedly in better shape than ever and has been spending time with the team to stay up to date on the playbook. Cleared last week to practice and play in preseason games, Bryant could see his first NFL action since January 2016 in Sunday's exhibition against Atlanta. He still hasn't been fully reinstated, but that should happen at the end of the preseason if he avoids violating any of the terms he agreed upon with the league.

07/31/17DBSenquez GolsonLegQUESTIONABLEGolson (leg) is yet to practice since suffering his injury several weeks ago, Ray Fittipaldo of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports.

Golson's leg injury occurred in late July, but to date, there's been no report of its exact severity. He should continue to be monitored on a week-by-week basis, but this ailment certainly doesn't help Golson's chances of making the Steelers' final roster.

01/26/17DBShamarko ThomasConcussionQUESTIONABLEThomas (concussion) signed a contract with the Jets on Thursday, Ralph Vacchiano of SportsNet New York reports.

Thomas saw his 2016 season end prematurely due to a concussion after playing in just eight games. In his four years with the Steelers, Thomas was never able to improve upon the 29 tackles of his rookie campaign, totaling just 24 tackles over his last three seasons with Pittsburgh. Now with the Jets, Thomas will need to earn a spot as a depth safety and special teams player.

08/19/17DBColt AndersonFootQUESTIONABLEAnderson aggravated his foot injury during pregame warmups Thursday and was subsequently held out of the contest, Sal Capaccio of WGR 550 reports.

This is concerning for the Bills' already shaky secondary depth, considering Anderson had already spent a large chunk of the preseason on the PUP list with the foot ailment. He came off the PUP on Sunday and resumed practicing, but Anderson tweaked the injury while warming up for Thursday's game against the Eagles. Considering the aggravation of Anderson's injury comes just days after being activated, Thursday's development is especially unwelcome news.

08/18/17DBTrae ElstonHamstringQUESTIONABLEElston suffered a hamstring injury in Thursday's game against the Eagles and did not return, Chris Brown of the team's official site reports.

Elston was on his way to having an impactful game Thursday before suffering his hamstring injury as he racked up three solo tackles from the strong safety spot. As a probable long shot to make the final roster, any additional time missed could be detrimental for Elston.

08/17/17WRJordan MatthewsChestQUESTIONABLEMatthews, who suffered a chip fracture in his sternum earlier this week, will not play in Thursday's second preseason game, Vic Carucci of The Buffalo News reports.

It would have been a surprise if he played, as the Bills previously said Matthews is week-to-week. The team still feels Matthews should be ready come Week 1, but as the newest member of the starting offense, he's missing valuable time with Tyrod Taylor and a new system.

    (Updated 08/15/2017)
08/17/17WRRod StreaterToeQUESTIONABLEStreater suffered a toe injury in Thursday's preseason game against the Eagles, Sal Capaccio of WGR 550 in Buffalo reports.

The former Raider had an impressive start to the game Thursday, nabbing both of his targets for 40 yards before being felled by the toe injury. The Bills did not disclose the severity of Streater's issue after the game, so his level of participation in practice in the coming days will be worth monitoring.

08/15/17DBBacarri RamboHamstringQUESTIONABLERambo has a hamstring injury and will not play in Thursday's second preseason game, Vic Carucci of The Buffalo News reports.

Rambo is on his second tour of duty with the Bills, but he's currently slotted for a depth/special teams role and not much more.

08/14/17DLAdolphus WashingtonBackQUESTIONABLEWashington, who was forced out of Monday's practice early due to back spasms, returned to practice Tuesday on a limited basis, Chris Brown of the Bills' official site reports.

Since Washington wasn't among the players coach Sean McDermott listed as out or questionable for Thursday's preseason game in Philadelphia, we imagine the second-year lineman will be suiting up.

08/10/17LBTanner VallejoShoulderQUESTIONABLEVallejo left Thursday's preseason opener against the Vikings with a shoulder injury and will not return, Mike Rodak of ESPN.com reports.

Vallejo is a rookie sixth-rounder who's adept at special teams, so we'll see if this hinders his quest to make the final roster.

    (Updated 08/10/2017)
08/08/17WRJeremy ButlerConcussionQUESTIONABLEButler (concussion) will not play in Thursday's preseason matchup against the Eagles, Mike Rodak of ESPN reports.

Butler suffered a concussion last week and was forced to sit out the Bills' first preseason game. The injury is unfortunate for the wideout, who's likely a fringe roster player at best. He'll need to bounce back and play well the rest of the preseason once he returns in order to earn a spot.

    (Updated 08/15/2017)
08/04/17DLShaq LawsonGroinQUESTIONABLELawson (groin) was able to participate in part of Sunday's practice, Chris Brown of the Bills' official site reports.

He missed some of the drills so apparently the starting DE isn't all the way back after missing Thursday's preseason opener, but it sounds as if the team has an eye on him being healthy soon.

    (Updated 08/14/2017)
06/15/17DBShareece WrightCalfQUESTIONABLEWright (thumb) is listed as questionable for Thursday's second preseason game, Vic Carucci of The Buffalo News reports.

His injury doesn't sound serious, and with starting cornerback Ronald Darby getting traded to the Eagles last week, Wright will have his hat in the ring -- along with a few others -- for the vacant starting spot. Rookie first-rounder Tre'Davious White is the only sure starter for now.

06/09/17WRWalt PowellSuspensionSUSPENDPowell has received a four-game suspension for violating the league's performance-enhancing drug policy, the Bills' official site reports.

Powell claims he accidentally used a product that caused the positive result, but has accepted the NFL's discipline and won't appeal. He'll be eligible to return to the team's active roster in early October following the Bills' Week 4 matchup against the Falcons. Powell has hauled in just 14 passes throughout his past two seasons in Buffalo, while news of a suspension won't bode well for his chances at making the team in the long run.
