AC Milan vs. Inter Milan score: Federico Dimarco scores winner as Nerazzurri win Supercoppa Italiana
Two goals in the first half lifted the blue and black side of Milan
Inter Milan beat AC Milan 3-0 to lift the Supercoppa Italiana trophy on Wednesday, claiming it for the second season in a row. This time, the game went only in one direction in Riyhad as Simone Inzaghi's boys dominated, scoring twice in the first half thanks to the goals scored by Federico Dimarco and Edin Dzeko. AC Milan were totally outplayed by the Nerazzurri and couldn't really react in the first half and had basically no concrete chances to score a goal.
The second half started off better for the Serie A title holders, who had a few chances to get back into the match, but Inter Milan managed to keep their goalkeeper safe and didn't concede before Lautaro Martinez converted a very nice assist of Milan Skriniar for the third and final goal of the match. Inter Milan won their first trophy of the season and continue a positive trend that started in the new year, while AC Milan are not in as good shape as their opponents after drawing two Serie A games in a row and were also eliminated by Torino in the Coppa Italia round of 16.
This is the seventh time that Inter Milan have won the Supercoppa Italiana, after winning it in 1989, 2005, 2006, 2008, 2010 and 2021. Inzaghi has an incredible record in this competition as he won it four times out of four finals, winning in 2017 and 2019 with Lazio and in 2021 and 2022 with Inter Milan. This was the second time that Inter Milan and AC Milan played the Supercoppa. Before this season, the Rossoneri won 2-1 at the Beijing National Stadium in 2011 thanks to the goals scored by Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Kevin Prince-Boateng after the opening one was scored by Wesley Sneijder.
Back to Serie A soccer now, there is only one point of difference between the two teams in the table as AC Milan are currently second with 38 points, while Inter Milan are fourth with 37 points (the same point total as Juventus). The first match between the two clubs this season took place on Sept. 3rd when the Rossoneri managed to win 3-2 against Inzaghi's side. The next Derby della Madonnina will take place on Feb. 5. This weekend Inter Milan will host Empoli at San Siro on Monday while AC Milan will play away against Lazio on Tuesday.
GOAL - Inter Milan scored the third
Looks like this is it in Riyhad! Lautaro Martinez scored the third goal of the game and Inter Milan are now three goals ahead of AC Milan. What a goal by Lautaro!
20 minutes to go
Inter Milan are still ahead 2-0 with AC Milan that are creating much more in this second half bust still didn't manage to score so far. The Rossoneri need to push more if they want to be back in the game. Meanwhile Inter Milan have replaced Joaquin Correa and Roberto Gagliardini for Edin Dzeko and Nicolò Barella, who looked tired in this last segment of the Supercoppa final.
First changes
Inter Milan's Federico Dimarco who scored the opening goal of the game is forced to come off and Robin Gosens replaces him for the final part of the match. Stefano Pioli's team also replaced Simon Kajer, Brahim Diaz and Junion Messias for Charles De Ketelaere, Pierre Kalulu and Divock Origi.
A good start for AC Milan
The Rossoneri started off way better this second half and had a nice chance with Rafael Leao but his attempt goes outside the post. Looks like AC Milan are still in the game here...
We're back
The second half started in Riyhad with no changes in the two sides.
HT: Inter Milan 2, AC Milan 0
The first half ended with the Nerazzurri ahead after the two goals scored by Federico Dimarco and Edin Dzeko. Inter Milan are dominating the match and deserved to be ahead as of now. AC Milan need an immediate reaction in the second half if they want to be back in the game.
Inter pushing again
AC Milan are suffering in this first part of the game and the Nerazzurri want to take advantage of this attitude of their opponents. Inzaghi's team went also close to score the third one with Dimarco again but Tatarusanu was careful enough.
GOAL - Dzeko scores
Inter Milan score the second one with Edin Dzeko! What a moment for the Nerazzurri that found the second goal of the game with Edin Dzeko. Big defensive mistake here for AC Milan...
AC Milan reaction
After conceding the first goal of the match, AC Milan immediately reacted with an individual play of Rafael Leao who tried alone to find the equalizer. However, Onana was careful enough and saved his team. It's a nice game of soccer now in Riyhad.
GOAL - Dimarco scores for Inter
Federico Dimarco scores the opening goal! A great play by the Nerazzurri with Edin Dzeko who finds Nicolò Barella between the lines and a perfect ball for Federico Dimarco on the other side who doesn't miss it. Inter ahead after ten minutes.

Look who's in the house
Pioli vs. Inzaghi
Stefano Pioli was appointed by Milan in October 2019. The 57-year-old began his senior coaching career in 2003 and has since worked with Salernitana, Modena, Parma, Grosseto, Piacenza, Sassuolo, Chievo, Palermo, Bologna, Lazio, Inter Milan and Fiorentina. Pioli's vast experience helped the Rossoneri to capture the Scudetto last season, which was his first piece of silverware as a manager.
Simone Inzaghi took charge of Inter Milan in June 2021. The 46-year-old Italian joined after a five-year stretch with Lazio, leading the side to one Coppa Italia and two Supercoppa Italiana titles. Since his move, he has also lifted one of each with the Nerazzurri during the past season.
Current form
Milan have failed to win three of their last five matches, including a loss to Torino in the Coppa Italia round of 16. That run has seen them beat Fiorentina (2-1) and Salernitana (2-1) but draw to both Roma (2-2) and Lecce (2-2), losing to Torino 1-0 between the two.
Inter Milan have won four of their last five matches. That run has seen them brush aside Atalanta (3-2) Napoli (1-0) Parma in the Coppa Italia round of 16 (2-1) and Verona (1-0) only Monza have been able to hold the Nerazzurri to a draw (2-2).
Some history...
- The game in Riyadh will be Inter's eleventh involvement in the Supercoppa Italiana after first competing for the trophy in 1988. The Nerazzurri have won it on six occasions: in 1989, 2005, 2006, 2008, 2010 and 2021.
- Milan have taken part in the Supercoppa twelve times, emerging victorious on seven occasions: in 1988, 1992, 1993, 1994, 2004, 2011 and 2016.
- Inter and Milan have faced each other in the Supercoppa Italiana just once: the Rossoneri won 2-1 at the Beijing National Stadium in 2011 thanks to the goals scored by Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Kevin Prince Boateng after the opening one scored by Wesley Sneijder.
- In their ten involvements in the competition - seven of which were between 2005 and 2011 - Inter have played extra time on four occasions, beating Roma on penalties in 2008 and winning within 120 minutes the other three times. This was the case last season as they came from behind to beat Juventus at San Siro thanks to a Lautaro Martinez penalty and a 121st-minute goal from Alexis Sanchez.
