Atletico Madrid-Bayer Leverkusen highlights, aggregate score: Simeone's side moves on in Champions League
Atletico is through and had little trouble
Atletico Madrid is through to the Champions League quarterfinals after eliminating Bayer Leverkusen on Wednesday in the round of 16. Entering the second leg with a 4-2 advantage, Atleti held Leverkusen to a 0-0 draw in Spain to move on comfortably.
The German side wasted numerous chances to get back into it. Needing a 3-0 result at minimum, Leverkusen sent several chances wide and were frustrated by Jan Oblak, who pulled off a pair of stunning saves in the second half to cement Atleti’s ticket to the next round.
The result sees Atleti through to the quarters, joining Bayern Munich, Real Madrid, Barcelona, Borussia Dortmund, Leicester City and Monaco. Atletico was a finalist last season, losing to Real Madrid in penalty kicks.
