Barcelona and Juventus meet on Sunday in a prestigious clash for the Joan Gamper Trophy, the traditional curtain raiser ahead of La Liga and Serie A's kick-offs. The trophy is in honor of a founding member and former player as well as president and has been running since 1966.

Juve won this back in 2005, one of just three sides to do so since 1997, but Barca have won it on the last eight occasions. The clash was supposed to be an indicator as to how these two teams are shaping up ahead of their respective seasons and a place for Lionel Messi to announce his Camp Nou renewal. Instead, the attention has shifted toward the financial state of Barcelona as a club after bidding farewell to Lionel Messi on Thursday in a move that sent shockwaves around the world.

Here is how you can watch the match and what to know:

Storylines

Barcelona: It has been a difficult summer for Ronald Koeman, and it shows no signs of easing up with the club no closer to registering new signings Memphis Depay, Sergio Aguero and Eric Garcia as well the legendary Messi inching closer to joining Paris Saint-Germain as PSG boss Mauricio Pochettino addressed rumors on Friday.

There is a very real possibility that the Blaugrana start the season without those new faces until they can find a way to drastically reduce their bloated wage bill and there will likely be a few sacrifices made.

Juventus: Massimiliano Allegri has returned to Turin and will lead the team this coming season with Cristiano Ronaldo still part of the group after a summer of speculation over the Portuguese superstar's future.

The Italians are hurting after last campaign's title failure as Inter Milan were crowned Serie A champions and the Bianconeri will be keen to re-establish themselves as the leading force on the domestic scene.

Prediction
