The United States is chasing another piece of hardware, but first it will need to get past a dangerous Jamaica team on Sunday in a 2021 Gold Cup quarterfinal matchup. The Americans beat Mexico in the Concacaf Nations League final last month and are eyeing a possible rematch for the confederation's top prize. The USMNT lost 1-0 to Mexico in the 2019 Gold Cup title match after beating Jamaica 3-1 to get there. The teams have faced off in the final four in the past three Gold Cups. The Americans won the Gold Cup in 2017 with a 2-1 win over Jamaica.

Kickoff from AT&T Stadium is set for 9:30 p.m ET. William Hill Sportsbook lists the USMNT as the -250 favorite (risk $250 to win $100) on the 90-minute money line in its latest USMNT vs. Jamaica odds, while Jamaica is the +650 underdog. The over-under for total goals scored is set at 2.5. Before making any Jamaica vs. USMNT picks or Gold Cup 2021 predictions, you need to see what consummate soccer insider Martin Green has to say

Why you should back the USMNT

The teams last met in a March friendly, and the USMNT dominated in a 4-1 victory. The Yanks held the ball for 70 percent of the game and had 28 shots, getting two goals from Sebastian Lletget. The Americans also won the previous meeting 3-1 and have lost to the Reggae Boyz just three times in 28 all-time matches (17-8-3). Lletget is one one of the veterans at age 28, and the team has loads of talent despite numerous stars missing out to train with their European clubs. Team USA is on an 11-1-1 run since the start of 2020, outscoring its opponents 42-9.

Strikers Gyasi Zardes and Daryl Dike are both lethal finishers, and the 21-year-old Dike is trying to secure his place as a featured player going forward. He had two goals in a 6-1 thrashing of Martinique in the group stage, and Zardes had one almost immediately after replacing him off the bench. Manager Gregg Berhalter could go with the five-man defense that thwarted Canada, allowing three shots on goal in the 1-0 group-stage win.

Why you should back Jamaica

The Reggae Boyz have reached the semifinals in three straight Gold Cups and never back down from the Americans. Their pace in attack has caused the USA trouble, and Shamar Nicholson is one of its main threats. He scored the only goal for Jamaica in the March loss to the USA and opened the scoring against Suriname. He is joined by Bobby Decordova-Reid, Leon Bailey and Cory Burke, and all can cause chaos in the box.

Jamaica is 22-12-9 under manager Theodore Whitmore, who played in the team's only World Cup in 1998. Jamaica won its group at the 2019 Nations League to secure its Gold Cup spot, with Nicholson scoring four goals as the team went 5-1-0. Jamaica put up 42 shots, with 18 on target, in the group stage and was unlucky to fall to Costa Rica after outshooting Los Ticos 18-5. The Jamaican defense is strong in the middle with Damian Lowe and Liam Moore, and Andre Blake is a two-time MLS Goalkeeper of the Year.
