Watch Now: Lionel Messi Will Remain at Barcelona 2020-21 (1:39)

Even with only just over a week remaining until the return of La Liga, Spanish soccer club FC Barcelona wants to make sure their fans are properly stocked with content until that date. The club announced the launch of a subscription streaming service called BARÇA TV+.

In a release, the club boasts 350 million online followers among all social media platforms, and 1.4 billion interactions, which the club claims are the most any team has in the world. The timing of the launch wasn't linked to the down times during the coronavirus pandemic, but the club hopes it can bring entertainment ahead of Barca returning to play next week.

"Barca had been preparing this launch for a long time, in order to be able to adapt to the tastes of new global audiences, as we believe that this is a key area to work in if we are to continue growing and boosting our leadership both on and off the field," Didac Lee, Barca board of directors member responsible for the digital area, told CBS Sports.

"Having said that, we believe that the new situation brought about by the spread of COVID-19 has made this project even more important than ever. During the pandemic, we have witnessed changes in the way content is consumed, accelerating an existing need for on-demand content such as Barca TV+, with more than 3,000 videos and 1,000 hours of 100 percent Barca content."

The service will be available throughout the world through the club website and app, for all possible devices including PC, tablet, mobile and television through casting technology. Along with a vast collection of behind-the-scenes videos, and compilations of footage featuring various stars from the club, the service will include on-demand replays of games from all soccer levels of the club and exclusive series and in-house documentaries called ORIGINALS. One example of this is Ready! Antoine Griezmann's challenges which shows the Frenchman putting athletes to the test with a series of challenges.

"For hardcore FC Barcelona fans, one of the main attractions is that they will be able to find all the Barca-related content on this service, including videos of moments that are already part of the club's history to exclusive series and documentaries that will help them to get to know the club and our players better," Lee said.

Another key aspect is that our fans from around the world will be able to watch our teams' matches. First team games cannot be shown live, but they can be seen in delay and on demand just a few hours after the final whistle. They will also get to enjoy live and delayed coverage of Barca B, Barca Women, the other professional sports and the club's youth teams."
