Defending World Cup champion France is among the teams that will be in action Wednesday as the qualifying round for the 2022 World Cup resumes with a sizable slate. Five of the top 20 teams in the FIFA World Rankings will be fighting for spots in Qatar 2022 on Wednesday, with the third-ranked French joined by Portugal (No. 8), Denmark (11th), the Netherlands (12th) and Croatia (18th). Caesars Sportsbook lists France as the -900 favorite for its match against Bosnia and Herzegovina, while Croatia is a slight +150 favorite over Russia (+163) and the other three are sizable favorites.

Kazakhstan (+600) faces 25th-ranked Ukraine (-250) to kick things off at 10 a.m. ET, with the other 12 matches starting at 2:45 p.m. ET.  Before you bet any of Wednesday's games or make any European World Cup Qualifying predictions, you need to check out the predictions and best bets from European soccer insider Martin Green

Top 2022 FIFA World Cup European Qualifiers predictions

One of Green's best bets for Wednesday: He fully expects the Netherlands (-143) to kick off manager Louis Van Gaal's third stint with the team with a victory against Norway. Van Gaal led the Dutch to the semifinals at the 2014 World Cup, and he has a strong attack featuring Memphis Depay, Georginio Wijnaldum and Wout Weghorst that could manhandle a shaky defense. The Netherlands has won four straight against the Norwegians, outscoring them 7-0.

The defense also should be up to the task of stopping a Norway squad that has lost two of its five games this calendar year, scoring multiple goals just once. The return of Virgil Van Dijk from injury is a huge boost for the defense and should help the Dutch neutralize the Norway attack. "The Liverpool defender will have to be at his best to deal with lethal Norwegian striker Erling Haaland, but Van Dijk rarely comes off second-best in any duel" Green told SportsLine.
