Whatever drives an athlete to bite one of their competitors in the middle of a soccer game is a question that will confuse many fans of the sport until the end of time -- not that there are necessarily many other situations where that act would be more tolerable. The dirty move that made Luis Suarez known to many around the globe reared its ugly head during a Serie A match on Tuesday.

In the final minutes of Lazio's game against Lecce, defender Patric decided to bite opposing right back Giulio Donati while his arm was outstretched in front of the defender's face. Donati and a fellow teammate who witnessed the act then ran off to the referee to inform him of what had just happened. The situation was reviewed and Patric was given a straight red card.

There's hardly ever a right time to bite someone's arm, but this was a particularly bad moment for Patric to pull off this kind of stunt. Not only is the danger of the bite amplified because of the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, by getting sent off he brought his side down to 10 men and made it that much more difficult for a late equalizer to happen so his squad could salvage a point. Lazio would go on to lose the match 2-1.
