Leicester City-Atletico Madrid Champions League aggregate score, highlights: Cinderella run ends
The Foxes have been eliminated while Atleti moves on again
Leicester City's magical Champions League run came to an end on Tuesday as Atletico Madrid moved past the Foxes after a 1-1 draw in the second leg, and a 2-1 aggregate advantage. A Saul goal in the first half was enough for Atletico to hold on, as it moves on to the semifinal round for the second straight season.
Leicester needed just a goal at the beginning of the match to draw level, but the match was turned on its head when Saul scored the opener for Atletico in the first half, making it 2-0 on aggregate and putting the visitors in a really comfortable position.
That goal meant Leicester needed three and the Foxes to go all out in attack. And they got going early in the second half with Jamie Vardy's finish on the hour mark.
The hosts improved as the match went on and threatened from time to time, but that world-class defense of Atleti did enough to knock out the reigning Premier League champions.
The result ends a brilliant run by the Foxes, who have struggled in the Premier League but made it to the final eight in Europe. As for Diego Simeone's men, it's another semifinal appearance and a team nobody wants to see in the final four.
