MLS scores, standings, playoff scenarios: Two teams clinch, plenty of spots open

The Montreal Impact and D.C. United booked their spots in the MLS Playoffs with their results on Sunday, the league's penultimate matchday. The New York Red Bulls, NYCFC and Toronto had already clinched a playoff spot entering the day.

D.C. United 3, New York City F.C. 1

D.C. took care of NYCFC 3-1 to win its fourth game in a row and stretch its unbeaten streak to six games, as Patrick Mullins, Bobby Boswell and Rob Vincent all scored in the first half.

Montreal Impact 2, Toronto F.C. 2

Montreal, meanwhile, earned a 2-2 draw against Toronto that was enough to secure a playoff berth, with Argentine Ignacio Piatti scoring twice.

Eastern Conference standings:

There is one more spot up for grabs, which the Philadelphia Union currently hold. Philly has a three-point lead over the New England Revolution for the final spot.

Western Conference standings:

As for the Western Conference, nobody else clinched on Sunday. FC Dallas, Colorado and the LA Galaxy had booked playoff berths entering the day, but no other team could join them.

As a result, there are three spots up for grabs, and it's Real Salt Lake, Seattle, Sporting KC and Portland fighting for them next weekend. The four teams are separated by two points. Next week, Real Salt Lake has a huge game against Seattle, Sporting KC plays San Jose and Portland takes on Vancouver. Here are the simple scenarios.

There is one more weekend of games before the MLS Playoffs begin. And it's coming down to the wire.
